1964 Impala Super Sport Convertible. 409 4 speed. Rust free West coast car with 56,000 original miles. This is NOT a clone. It’s the real deal. Body: Amazingly, there is absolutely no rust anywhere on the floors or trunk. Not even pinholes. The Rockers are solid too. The paint stock Roman Red. It is 8 years old. It’s way better than a 20 footer; maybe a 5 footer. There is one small paint pop starting to show on the driver’s door and a couple small chips are here are there. Nothing serious. Engine: Engine is a rare high performance 409-400 HP. The engine was completely rebuilt 5 years ago by 409 Performance Inc. This is a replacement engine for the original which was blown up. It is a correct 1964 (4422) passenger block with 64 583 high performance heads. Engine deck stamp is “A” for 400 HP. There is no VIN number stamping on the pad. Where the VIN number is factory stamped, it is still blank. The high performance manifolds, engine accessories are all original to the car. The car has been driven less than 3,000 miles since the build. No oil or fluid leaks. Some mods were done to the engine to improve performance and reliability but every effort was made to give the exterior a correct stock appearance. Engine was balanced with Ross racing pistons. Isky 245 Cam, hardened valve seats, 7/16” screw in rocker studs and Crane roller rockers over solid lifters. High toque starter (to avoid hot start issues) 50,000 volt electronic ignition is hidden under the stock dual point distributor. This engine runs very strong! It has no issues and could be driven anywhere. Transmission: Is original to this car, a M-22 4 speed. It has factory matching VIN stamping on the top of the case. Transmission was rebuilt when the engine was out. Retained the original GM shifter and shift linkage. It was tuned and works like new. Rear End: Original posi-trac was noisy. It was removed and replaced with a rebuilt 3.33 pumpkin. This was done for ease of driving on freeways and to distant car shows. The original pumpkin is not available. Chassis: Frame is solid. All floor braces are present and solid. New 505 Power steering was added. New brakes, wheel cylinders and master cylinder installed. Stock drum brakes were retained with stock 14” GM wheels. New suspension springs installed front and rear. Interior: Complete new interior installed 5 years ago. It still looks like new. A new professionally installed top was added two years ago. Top hydro system was rebuilt using original motor and replacement cylinders and new lines at the same time. Top works perfect. Not shown is a correct parade boot for the top. Restoration: Was done frame on. New suspension components, new fuel lines including return line and fuel tank. New aluminum core 4 row (correct) slant top radiator, new chrome and thousands $$$ in receipts for items I can’t even recall now. Bumpers were re-chromed and trim pieced polished. The car always starts immediately and runs strong. Never overheats, even in traffic which is common on these cars. I have enjoyed, owning, driving and showing this car as it always attracts a lot of attention and a frequent in class winner.
