Vehicle Detail

C'mon, Get Happy! 1969 VW WESTFALIA POP-TOP O ffered For Sale is a lovely Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile Bus. It's in great condition - both cosmetically and mechanically. This campmobile features a sink, ice-box, folding bed, cabinets, dining table, new canvas pop-top tent, plus a list of other cool features! It's clean inside/out - you'll be impressed. The bus is a blast to own, drive, and explore nature with. This Westy is a real crowd-pleaser and it will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. It's ready to go; all it needs is a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just simply driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. In fact, it still wears the original, California, blue/gold six-digit license plates. After 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being a simple, well-engineered, and economical vehicle. Dash is simple, yet functional, just like every vintage VW. Speedometer and odometer work fine. Fuel gauge is a little temperamental. The horn and old, cassette radio are currently not working. Also, the engine starts up not by turning the key, but by a using toggle switch and push-button mechanism, and actually, it works quite nicely! Door locks are all working, though some use a different key (which is quite common for some reason on old buses). The signals, lights, and wipers are functioning correctly; brake lights, too. Windows roll up/down fine. Visors and windshield are in nice condition. Window trim features expensive new seals and rubber. Seals around windwings still need to be installed, but new ones are included with the sale. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The interior is clean, with original VW seats. Surprisingly, there are no rips or tears. Seats are firm and supportive. Previous owner was quite handy with woodwork and carpentry, so he crafted custom wood panels for the doors and under the dash near the vents. It looks very good and enhances the look and feel of the cabin. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Dinette of the camper is clean. There's plenty of room for passengers and cargo, whether you're just going away for a day at the beach or on a long camping excursion. Curtains have been replaced recently; so has the wood floor and some of the paneling. It's quite a cozy setting, indeed. All we need is a bottle of wine and some candles. Rear seat transforms in a matter of seconds to a folding bed....and a room with a view! ............ Cushions in the original fabric and color are clean, supportive, and look great. There are a few minor tears in the vinyl material, which is to be expected after nearly 45 years of use. Replacement material can be easily obtained and the seats reupholstered, if desired. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............... All the comforts of home: wood accents, dining table, sink (with rubber stopper), ice box, and plenty of storage/closet space. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............... ** Ice-box is complete and "sanitary." Even the tray, which usually is long gone, is still present here. ** Hand pump dispenses water from reservoir tank; in comes in handy when cleaning up at the campsite. The bus is a self-contained camper that's unique and very functional. The fun you'll experience is beyond words, and something you will have to find out for yourself. Pop-top opens easily, offering walk-around versatility and fresh air when out camping. Canvas material and screens for tent have been replaced and are new. .................. If you're cold or just want some privacy, the canvas shades can be zipped up to accommodate your mood. Click on the Images for Larger Picture All dressed up and everywhere to go. ...kkkkkkkpp..... .........lll....... Panels show a nice reflection, and the body is quite straight, taking age and use into consideration. Since it's a "driver," there are some small flaws here and there, but nothing to worry about. There are no signs of dents or accidents that I can see. Paint was done awhile back, and as you can tell, it still looks sharp! There are a few "runs" in the paint, and other minor blemishes, but the finish is thick, and it exudes a nice reflection. Like all vintage VWs, there's some surface rust in areas, but it rubs off like a powder. Undercarriage and frame are solid. Click on the Images for Larger Picture The tried & true Volkswagen "upright" engine is a 1600cc. This design is the traditional style used on scores of VWs for decades, ending with 1971. For buses 1972 and on, a flat "pancake" motor was used, which is more complicated. This Bus has the preferred motor that is familiar to work on, with parts availability galore. This bus is a pleasure to own. Motor starts instantly, even when cold, and there is No Smoke. Even the idle is smooth. It doesn't bog down, but actually has good power, even from a standstill. Steering is tight; no shimmies or shaking. Gearbox is fine; shifting is effortless, and there's no grinding or popping out of any gear. Brakes operate great. A couple new hoses and wheel cylinders were just installed, and the brakes were also adjusted. The pedal is firm and the bus stops evenly. Even the emergency brake still operates. Take a Test Drive! Click on YouTube video Above A classic VW Bus presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles, as they are quite sought after, especially if it's a Westfalia pop-top, like the one offered here.
