Vehicle Detail
I bought this bike in the fall of 2010. It was a barn find bike, sitting since 1995. The first owner was in the Navy and at some point was stationed in Hawaii. There was a Naval Base sticker on the fork tube. I think the bike sat outside when it was there because there was significant fading of the paint and the uncoated fasteners were rusted. I bought the bike from the second owner who had a heart attack in 95, and never rode the bike again. His process to prep the bike for storage was to spray the entire bike with WD40. The bike had only 4385 miles when I bought it. I restored the bike in the winter of 2010, every nut and bolt, down to the bare frame. The engine and carbs were rebuilt by Donnell's Honda in Independence, Missouri. I have all of the pictures of the teardown and rebuild. The tins were repainted the original Candy Bourgogne Red with all of the correct decals under 3 coats of clearcoat. The engine was hand sanded and repainted, and the aluminum parts were removed and professionally polished. Four months later the bike was back together looking as good as the day it was uncrated. Since then I've enjoyed riding the bike on short stints in the area, only in fair weather. The bike now has 7809 miles on it, and still garners lots of comments from people wherever I go with it. The paint is no longer perfect, there are a couple of hard to notice chips on the fenders, the tank is still perfect. Everything works as it should, there are no electrical or mechanical issues. The achilles heel of this bike is the plastic side covers. the left cover has a crack at the lower pin, which is hidden by the mufflers, and a stress crack at the top front pin which is not very noticeable. Both pins have been repaired so the retention is not compromised. The right side cover top front pin was missing and has been repaired so it is retained properly as well. Since NOS side covers are not available, it's extremely difficult to find good used covers. There is a lot of me in this bike, and I'm extremely proud of it. I currently have 5 bikes with only room for 3, so it's time to go to a good home. Any questions, call me at 816-582-8817.
