Vehicle Detail
1967 Honda CL450 Scrambler 1000 Documented Miles Very early, (first year), Virtually all original Honda CL 450 Scrambler. Built in 1967. Registered as 1968. See photo of VIN and engine number. If the first bike was number 1000000 then this would be the 4,216st built. My research has shown this to be a very rare first year production of the 450 Scrambler. I can not say exactly how rare. There are no production numbers divulged by Honda. This bike was purchased new in NJ and then brought to Massachusetts where I purchased it from the first and only owner. It was last registered 8/10/79 with 800 miles on the odometer in Mass and shortly after was put in a garage under a couple sheets with the fuel tank drained. I bought it with 1000 documented miles and have re-comissioned the bike. During that process I have put 12+ miles on it. Except for the noted items, every single part on this bike is factory original. Hand grips, foot pegs and even the air filter assemblies that are like-new clean. I have replaced the following: battery, spark plugs, carburetor gaskets, 1 float, and intake isolators. These items have been replaced with new OEM or equivalent parts. I will supply with a pair of new points. The bike is complete except for one side cover screw that I have miss-placed but I hope to find it before delivery. Failing that I will make a stainless one or supply a close equivalent. Factory brochures and photos show no mirrors. This bike has an OEM right side mirror. I have rebuilt the carburettors, cleaned the petcock, set the valves, set the points, synchronized the carbs, dismantled lubed and cleaned the handle bar switches as well as lubricating cables and moving parts and of course fresh engine/trans oil. Everything functions correctly and smoothly except the horn which does not sound. The bike is 444 cubic inches, 5 speeds with electric and kick start. It lights right off, idles steadily and pulls hard to it's 9500 RPM redline. Shocks work great and it is very light weight and nimble. This bike has never gone down. Chrome is great with a few pimples on the rims where they were closest to the ground during storage as some on the rear fender top and a few on the muffler. The chrome grab handle under the seat also has plating issues. Spokes are somewhat scruffy. There are some age spots on the forks and wheel centers. The exhaust looks as it should with only 1000 miles on it. No holes, scratches or rot! Paint is all original. No resprays or touch ups. Even the underside of the tank and back sides of the side covers look great. Same with under the seat. Some areas of the frame and tail light bracket have small worms under the paint that are the result of factory prep and paint combined with 46 years of age. The forward top side of the chain guard has a more pronounced amount. The headlight housing, gauges, directionals, frame, lenses, fasteners and the rest look fantastic with no fading and no rust except the kick stand and a little around the fork lock area. There is only slight crazing to the gauge lenses that shows in the right light at the right angle. This bike was not in the sun much at all and it shows. The tank has a dent across the top and some scratches on the left side. I made my best attempt to have it show in the pictures. Inside of tank is very clean. Not rusty, never any sealer. Seat is original and is supple and not collapsed. Wiring has never been monkeyed with. The tires look great without any dry cracking. The fork boots are failing. They are available new. No smoke, leaks or drips. Comes with 2 original keys and excellent complete tool kit. Because it was an early first year 450, it came from the dealer with a 250-350 owners manual. Said owners manual is included. It also comes wit a fresh Clymer manual. I will convey the first owner's last Mass registration, original copy of notarized bill of sale from my purchase and notarized bill of sale from me to you. This is a real no reserve auction. I will not end it early. NO BUY IT NOW. I am not using this listing to market for an off E-Bay sale. I believe in the original intent of E-Bay. I have sold antique cars, vintage arcade games, pinballs and exotic car parts this way with happy buyers. The bike is in North East Conn. I am willing to arrange a reasonable delivery agreement within 100 miles of 06331 or 01776 zip code. I would consider greater distances depending on location. This would cover all or parts of CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME, NY. I don't know what else to say. If you have questions BESIDES if I will end the auction early or what the buy it now is, send me the question! Thanks for bidding, Spencer
