Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for bid is 1979 Macho Trans Am # 88. For anyone who doesn’t know, the Macho Trans Am was a limited edition modified Pontiac Trans Am built by DKM Design Performance in Phoenix AZ. In 1979 DKM only produced 96 Macho T/A’s and this one is number 88. I verified this Macho with DKM owner, Dennis Mecham prior to my purchasing it and I have a copy of the DKM Project Work Order showing that this Macho entered production at DKM on May 2, 1979. The car spent its entire life in Arizona, much of it parked behind a repair shop where time and the elements took their toll. The Macho is basically a rolling chassis at this point. The body is pretty straight, no major damage and NO RUST. All the soft parts (bumper covers, spoiler, wheel spats, etc) need to be replaced, the windshield is cracked but the rest of the glass is intact. The interior was weathered and dry rotted beyond repair. I removed and discarded most of it but I saved anything that might be salvaged (kick panels, seat cores, some window trim, instrument cluster, HVAC controls and some of the vent work from under the dash), the ID plate which DKM attached to the console was long gone but Dennis Mecham told me that they still have some ID plates left which could be acquired. They were for cars that were never produced so the number would be incorrect but a jeweler or trophy shop might be able to fix that. There is a correct 403 Olds motor in the engine bay but it is NOT the original engine and its condition is unknown, I would consider it a core only. The same for the 350 Turbo Transmission. When I bought this Macho in 2005, I had another ’79 Trans Am which I had planned to use as a donor for re-building this one. However, before I got started I was transferred from Texas to Michigan and the other Trans Am was sold prior to moving. The Macho has resided in my garage here in MI since 2007 and I have neither the time nor funds to complete the project so I am offering it to someone who perhaps does. This is a rare piece of Muscle Car history, only about 20 ’79 Machos are known to still exist so it would be well worth the effort and expense of restoration. This car is being offered for sale “As Is, Where Is” it is in non-running condition and will need to be transported on a trailer. Shipping costs and arrangements will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. I will make the car available for pick-up in my driveway. I will require a $150 non-refundable deposit within 72 hours of the auction close, payment of the balance will be by cashier’s check or other means agreed upon by both the buyer and seller after the auction close. I will store the car in my garage until it is picked up, for a maximum of 10 days after the close of the auction. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. If you are in the Detroit, MI area and would like to inspect the car in person simply message me through ebay to make arrangements. Good Luck! On May-08-13 at 04:14:27 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: My apologies, I forgot to mention that some previous owner tried to build a speaker enclosure in the trunk and for some reason they cut out the package tray and rear seat support. I have a replacement from a donor car which will be included but it will need to be trimmed and welded in. Also, I forgot to mention that there is evidence of very old damage to the right fender and door. The damage was repaired long ago but it looks like there may be a little body filler in the door under the mirror, you can see the cracks in the last photo. Again, I apologize for my oversight. If anyone who has already bid on the car wishes to cancel their bid I fully understand. On May-09-13 at 15:19:33 PDT, seller added the following information: In order to satisfy any skeptics who think I'm trying to be dishonest I have uploaded a picture of the "missing" back glass and the engine. The glass is not secured but is merely sitting on the car, it has spent the last 6 years wrapped in bubble wrap but I pulled it out and set it in place for the photograph to prove that the glass exists and is intact. I have also uploaded a picture of the DKM Project Work Order for good measure.
