C'mon, Get Happy! 1971 VW Camper O ffered For Sale is a lovely Volkswagen Tintop Transporter Bus. It's in great condition - both cosmetically and mechanically. This bus has the camping option installed and features: a stainless steel basin, ice-box, folding bed, cabinets, and dining table, plus a list of other cool features! It's clean inside/out - you'll be impressed. 1971 Buses are highly sought after. In addition to being the final year to have the upright motor, these models are the first to have disc brakes. 1971 also saw the last of the small red taillights. Newer buses had long, brick-shaped units that weren't as pure to the original design. The styling certainly has aged well, and it's one cool ride. It is a real crowd-pleaser and will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. All it needs is a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just simply driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being a simple, well-engineered, and economical vehicle. Dash is simple, yet functional, just like every vintage VW. Speedometer and gas gauge work good; so do the external lights, signals, and horn. Wipers work fine, with two speeds. Radio is non-op. E-brake is not connected (needs cable). Windows roll up/down fine. Visors and windshield are in nice condition. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The interior is clean, with original VW seats and fabric. There are little rips showing from age and use, which is to be expected. Nothing bad, though. Rubber mats look good. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Dinette of the camper is clean. There's plenty of room for passengers and cargo, whether you're just going away for a day at the beach or on a long camping excursion. Rear seat transforms in a matter of seconds to a folding bed....and a room with a view! ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............... All the comforts of home: wood accents, dining table, sink basin, ice box, and plenty of storage space. Cushions in the original fabric and color are clean, supportive, and look great. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............... ** Ice-box is complete and "sanitary." Even the tray, which usually is long gone, is still present here. ** Hand pump dispenses water from reservoir tank; in comes in handy when cleaning up at the campsite. The bus is a self-contained camper that's unique and very functional. The fun you'll experience is beyond words, and something you will have to find out for yourself. All dressed up and everywhere to go. ...kkkkkkkpppp......... .........lll....... Panels show a nice reflection, and the body is quite straight, taking age and use into consideration. Since it's a "driver," there are some small flaws here and there, but nothing to worry about. There are no signs of dents or accidents that I can see. Paint was done a few years back, and as you can tell, it still looks great! The finish is thick, with a nice reflection. Undercarriage and frame are solid. Front floors had a couple minor areas welded and patched, so now it's good to go. Under the front windshield is excellent - no typical rotting or holes. That's a definite bonus. Click on the Images for Larger Picture The tried & true Volkswagen "upright" engine is a 1600cc. This design is the traditional style used on scores of VWs for decades, ending with 1971. For buses 1972 and on, a flat "pancake" motor was used, which is more complicated. This Bus has the preferred motor that is familiar to work on, with parts availability galore. That's one of the reasons 1971 Buses are highly sought after. This bus is a pleasure to own. Motor starts instantly, even when cold, and there is No Smoke. Even the idle is relatively quite, like a sewing maching. The bus always pulls strong and the motor is smooth. It doesn't bog down, but actually has good power, even from a standstill. The performance exhaust sounds great and gives the bus an added "punch." Steering is tight; no shimmies or shaking. Gearbox and clutch are fine; no grinding or popping out of any gear. Brakes are firm and operate great. Take a Test Drive! Click on YouTube video Above A classic VW Bus presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles, as they are quite sought after. This one's not perfect, nor has it been restored to show-quality, but this 1971 "survivor" is a great weekend driver that shows a lot of promise and has been cared for. It’s just right for someone who’s always fantasized about owning a vintage VW Bus, or sold theirs years ago and has regretted it ever since.
