Vehicle Detail

I have decided the time has come to start thinning my stable of old BMWs. I thought this day would never come, but I'm getting older and I'm beginning to believe that if something should happen to me, my wife would just give away my old Bimmers...she thinks they're just old cars and just doesn't really understand the love and passion.... You are reviewing the listing for a 1974 2002 Tii that would be a great daily driver, yet still get lots of attention because of it's eye appeal and overall condition. Along with a total restoration, a refreshing respray, the Tii has had a new factor rebuilt engine, a Metric Mechanic transmission, upgraded suspension, and has recently had the Kluglefischer fuel injection professionally tuned to run beautifully. This Tii does not have a sunroof.I'll give information in two parts; a LIST to identify specifically what has been done, and a NARRATIVE just to learn more about the owner (me) and the car. If you are looking for an ORIGINAL 2002, this is not the car for you as several modifications and changes have been made to the original form as coming from the factory. LIST (and time frame of work done).1988-89-Complete restoration-over $14,000 spent. -Paint strip and repaint in Granada Red. -Rebuilt engine from BMW. -Rebuilt transmission from Metric Mechanic. -Black Recaro interior installed to include new carpet. -5 pages of line items of detailed work done. 2006-Refresh and suspension upgrade- over $5,000 spent. -Small rear bumper installed on rear, air dam installed on front. -All glass, interior, carpet, removed, and front floorboards replaced. -All body panels sanded and any rust found cut out and metal welded in. -Side reflector and side trim delete. -New two stage paint in Granada Red by professional restoration shop. -New windshield installed. -New Bilstein Sports installed. -New Eibach springs installed. -European parking lights installed. -Staggered Alpinas (by Ronal) 6” front,7” rear installed (note depth of lips in closeup wheel picture). -New calipers, rotors, and pads. -New stainless steel brake lines. -Moved battery to rear. -Installed rear strut bar. August-December 2012- Engine mechanicals refreshed-Over $3,100 spent -New starter. -New high output alternator. -Kluglefischer tuned. -New center link, tire rods, and ball joints. -New urethane bushings in front...not need in rear. -Alignment April 6, 2013-New Falken 329 tires, 205 50 15 (with road hazard warranty)-$457.83 NARRATIVE I've owned this Tii since 2001. I bought it from an Air Force Senior Master Sergeant who lived in the Washington D.C area who had previously spent in excess of $14,000 in 1988 E&E Auto Restoration shop in Harrisonburg, VA on a complete restoration, as stated in the LIST, including a new factory rebuilt enging from BMW, a Metric Mechanic transmission, and a new black Recaro interior . During the 1988 restoration the Tii was completely stripped and repainted in an earlier BMW E3 color, Granada Red. I was particularlly attracted to the color because I had had picked up a Granada Red BMW 2500 from the factory in December 1970. I have the detailed receipts for the work, the engine, and the transmission.I kept the car in storage for 5 years in southwest Virginia until I retired in 2006. The Tii then spent 7 weeks at a restoration shop in southwest Virginia tiding up the things that needed renewing, and having a fresh paint respray. Since the engine bay, the trunk, and the door jams had been properly done in the Granada Red, keeping the same color, my favorite color, on the respray was a given The work in 2006 included repairing any rust by cutting out and welding in replacement metal, removing all the windows for a complete respray, installing a new windshield, stainless brake lines, adding Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs, and a few other minor items like moving the battery to the rear and adding a rear sway bar. By my choice I had the reflector lens and side trim pieces deleted. The old big bumpers were removed and holes welded in, and a Zender spoiler installed in the front, and a small European bumper installed in the rear. I also added the European parking lights in front and the Alpina wheels which are staggered: 6” in front and 7” in rear. These are real Alpina wheels made by Ronel, very rare, and expensive...I searched long and hard.Since I've owned the car, it has never been wet except for frequent washes; its been stored inside and only driven on good weather days. I have complete documentation of the work done, including pictures, that will go with the car. I had planned to take it to the Vintage in Winston Salem in May but have decided to take another car. My other Tii received the “People's Choice” award at the 2011 Vintage and received recognition by a picture and article in the December 2011 “Bimmer” magazine. That wide body Inka '73 Tii will go on sale in a few months. In the past 6 months I have spent in excess of $3400 having all the mechanicals refreshed, new starter and bigger altenator, Kluglefischer properly tuned, and putting new urthane bushing in the front as well as new center link, left and right tire rods, ball koints, new calipers, rotors, and pads. I have just added new Falken 205 50 15 tires that have less than 50 miles. It runs great, drives beautifully, and is ready for the highway. The only thing it lacks is perhaps some detail work in the engine bay, and hooking up the heater blower and the vintage radio...I'm color blind and electrical is not my thing.I have owned BMW's since I picked up my first one at the factory in December 1970...
