I picked this one up recently but I have way too many projects and I’m not likely to get to it anytime soon. I think the car is really a bit too nice to part out so I am offering it at no reserve for anyone interested in a good project, or (if you must) it would make a great parts car. Like all project cars, this one has both positive and negative features. I want to be completely forthcoming, so I’ll give you a rundown of both (the good and the not-so-good) below. Please note, I have listed the milage at 75,000 (ebay requires a number) but I really have no idea as to the actual miles. OK, First the Negatives: ?As with many TR4s, the trunk pan and rocker panels are rusty? and should be replaced. As you can see in the photos, the previous owner removed the rear valance (in anticipation of replacement) as well. There is a fiberglass valence that came with the car (its included in the deal), but if I were doing it I would replace the valence, rockers and trunk pans with metal panels. In any case, the fiberglass valence comes with the package (just sell it if you don’t need it). There is evidence of a former accident (front right) that looks to have been repaired a long time ago. Not the greatest repair job, but it could certainly be cleaned up if a proper restoration is planned. If you are just buying the car for parts, it’s probably not an issue anyway. The engine is frozen and so far I have not been able to turn it by hand. It’s soaking in Marvel Mystery Oil now so who knows. At some point in it’s life, one of the POs installed a thin layer of fiberglass over the front floors. Not sure why, as the floors actually look pretty good (check out the photos, both top and bottom views), but I’ve seen stranger things. Regardless, this should come up fairly easily. As usual, there are a few missing parts, which include the seats, front bumper, windshield glass, a couple of gauges (amp and fuel), and the wood dash. I have a decent windshield that I can include, and I think I may have a pair of TR4 seats that I can throw in (they will absolutely need restoring). The wood dashes are almost never useable, so that would be routinely replaced anyway. Nevertheless, before the auction closes I will scrounge around and see what else I can come up with to make the car as complete as possible. Basically, if you don’t see a particular part in the photos, just assume it’s not there and bid accordingly. Now the Positives: As TR4s go, the car is not as badly rusted as most. The fenders and doors are in relatively good shape (and with good used fenders going for $250 to $500 each, there’s well over $1000 value just in fenders). Also the upper deck section (around the trunk lid) is in pretty good shape (see photos). This is a solid axle car, which is much less expensive to restore and maintain, and it’s not prone to all of the IRS ills (broken differential mounts, bad U-joints, worn out sliding splines, etc.). The frame appears to be very solid with just surface rust from long-term storage. I checked the rear trailing arm sections and these areas all appear to be SOLID (as pictured). The car has an excellent TR4A Grill (another $150) and it is also equipped with the (hard to find) OEM dual exhaust manifold. The last one of those I had to buy cost me well over $200. I have a clear North Carolina title (signed by the PO), which is really a plus since many are offered these days without a title. All in all, this is a decent project car (starting at a REALLY GOOD opening bid!!!) or it could be a FABULOUS parts car. Either way, the price is right with an opening bid is just one dollar. This is a FIVE DAY AUCTION so enjoy and if you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to email. I am available by phone (in the evenings) to discuss the car (just send me a contact number).
