This very early Production car #6 off the Southgate California line built with a 3 speed manual transmission is a very rare car. Its serial number is C855S1006. “C” is for Southgate, “8” is for 28 series Star Chief, “55” is the year, “S” is for synchromesh transmission, “1006” is for the 6th 28 series car down the line. The first 4 cars were mock ups with production starting with car #5. Only about 252 synchromesh Star Chiefs were made in 1955 with most of those shipped over seas as export models. This is an absolutely solid rust free car that is ice pick solid. It was sold new in Merced, California at Millhiem Motors. The colors are White Mist over Turquoise Blue with the optional no-cost leather interior. The car was built with Basic Group and lighted hood ornament, rear fender shields, gas door guard and radio with power antenna. This car runs smooth and drives good. The engine does smoke out the tail pipe some after a while, but blow-by is minimal. The clutch is new. The muffler does need to be replaced. The car is complete and unmolested and is as it has survived. It even has the original steel disposable fuel filler with it. The car was last drivin in 1976 on a regular basis, so its been sitting, always inside. The brakes have been done and are very good. The car has 68,989 miles on it. I'm certain that this car was not intended for sale and how it escaped is up for debate as bracing and insulation was left out of this car. It does have history.
