Vehicle Detail

This is a 1968 AMC AMX. The AMX stands for American Motors Experimental. This is the first year of the two seaters, and this is the car that put AMC on the performance map. They are not just cars that run great with excellent handling characteristics, they are also very fun to drive with awesome ride and comfort. AMC really did a nice job with this car. The best thing about this car is that it has NO rust issues whatsoever. That is really hard to find in a car this old, even if it is from Texas. The numbers on the door are Body: R016651, Trim 835A, Model 6839-7, Paint 72A. This car is original with the exception of some performance engine and interior upgrades. The engine is the original 390, the transmission and rear end are also original. The engine is a newly rebuilt 390 with Venolia forged lightweight 10:1 pistons on stock forged steel rods that have been resized for perfect fit. The heads are original 390 with new valves, upgraded springs and retainers with roller rockers. The cam is a mild hydraulic that makes excellent mid range horsepower and it still is very streetable with a slight lope. It has an edelbrock air gap intake with a Edelbrock carburetor. It has a HEI distributer and a 80 amp one wire GM alternator. Headers are the Hooker supercomp with Flowmaster mufflers. The transmission has been rebuilt and includes a slightly higher stall converter. It has a shift kit that hits nice and firm, but not uncomfortable. The rear end is the factory AMC 20 with the factory GO Pac Posi unit. The paint on this car is presentable, but it is not “show” quality. It does well at the local car shows. The Interior is stock with the exception of the Recaro Bucket seats. They fit you like a glove and they are very comfortable for long cruises. The seats also have a 4 point harness and are adjustable for leg room and reclining positions. The car also has a serious stereo, amp, and cd player combination. If you like to jam to some music while you cruise, then you definitely have the equipment to do so. This car runs great, gets a lot of attentions where ever you go. The engine and trans have less than 2 thousand miles on it since it was rebuilt. It runs VERY strong and is a blast to drive. This car does have have some cool performance upgrades, but it can all be undone if you want to restore it to factory original. You can drive this car cross country with no problems.
