Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a truly incredible Mopar find-A one owner, all original, low mile 1970 Dodge Polara Custom. Purchased new in 1970 from a southern California Dodge dealer, this Polara served as a local couple's muscular transport. Always garaged and cherished, it was never left outside and religiously serviced. Equipped with factory AC, PS, PB and the mighty Mopar big block Hi Compression 383, this Polara cruised the local streets in style. Ordered with Light Gold paint(Y4) and matching gold interior with optional appearance/lighting group, the Custom provides true road presence. This car was only used locally. As the coupe entered their senior years, is was used sparingly and the miles stayed low. Only 75k original miles on this 1970 Dodge. The Polara remained safely stored in the couples garage until their passing and was sold as part of their estate. When I retrieved the car, it was where it had been since 1970, a small, two car garage in southern California. After a new battery, flushed fluids and carefull checking of belts, tires and hoses-the stout Mopar fired right up and settled into a smooth, smoke-free idle. A short local drive revealed that all the controls functioned as new with an unbelievable smoothness lost to time by most surviving cars of this era. This car is an unmolested original-the switches, locks, windows, brakes, steering, etc-all work about the way they did in1970. An amazing car. The rubber seals, felts, liners, etc are supple, the door panels gleam like they did in 1970, the original lights glow with a vibrancy unmatched by repops and restos. This is the real deal. The radio is crisp and clear and the speakers sound great. Ashtrays gleam, instruments are crystal clear and all lighting works as it should. Incredibly, the original R12 AC works! If you are at all familiar with old Mopars, you know that rust is their enemy. It usually has consumed many of these old Dodges and is either hidden, poorly repaired or both. This Polara has ZERO rust-anywhere. All the usual spots(trunk, pans, window channels, firewall, etc) are perfect. Check out the trunk, the windows(all original Mopar, BTW) under the hood-best I've ever seen. One of the really impressive areas of this Polara is the trunk. The original bias ply spare has never left the trunk, the Mopar floor mat is pristine, the wiring, undercoating and interior finishes are so good, they could be used for reference restorations. Astoundingly, the original build sheet is restly gently underneath the trunk mat in perfect, unstuck condition. All clips, light screw plugs, truck stickers, etc are present and perfect. The antique tins of car wax, chrome polish and interior cleaner are still stored inb the trunk-probably the same ones purchased when the car was new and used over the decades to cherish the Polara. Most of the original chrome(always a sore spot on vintage Mopars) is very nice. As part of its return to the road, the Polara was equipped with an original set of factory Mopar 15 x 7 wheels and redline dog dish hubcaps. I thought they really added to the look of the car, with the same, all business attitude displayed by Hemi Cudas, Superbees and old Mopar police cars. The Polara does have its original steel wheels and full size sport hubcaps-in perfect condition. This Polara custom drives down the road with a smoothness that not only belies its age, but can only come from a low mile original. No squeaks, rattles or loud wind whistling, the Dodge traverses the highway with confidence. Negatives? While this is a truly impressive find, of course it isn't perfect. There are numerous minor scrapes, chips, faded paint spots etc on what appear to be mostly original paint. The interior, while stunning, does have a couple very minor flaws-a tiny tear, a slightly discolored headrest and a few dash cracks(covered by a custom dash cover). This is one of the nicest original Mopars I've ever encountered. When I obtained the title from the estate, I noticed it was a salvage. I honestly have no idea why this is the case. There is no discernable reason that I can find to explain this. It did have a replacement title from the estate and perhaps there was some type of clerical error when the title was re-issued after the car lay dormant for a period of years? Don't miss this opportunity to own a truly rare Mopar. Finding a survivor is difficult enough-finding one in this unmolested condition is even harder. These big C-body Polaras are rare enough, but a 2 door hardtop with no vinyl top and a really cool color combo, makes this Polara special. Be prepared to have the guys with Cudas, GTXs and Chargers wonder why folks are wandering over to this mighty Polara at the shows. Unique, rare and original-good luck and thanks for bidding.
