Vehicle Detail
Moved to the city and reducing from two cars to one. Selling our 2002 C230 Kompressor. This is a rocket of a car. And has A LOT of room. Ikea run? No problem! Can easily fit 4 to 5 large Rubbermaid-type storage bins with the seats down. Fast, sporty, sharp, and hauls a lot of cargo. You can't do that in too many RWD sports coupes. This car was moved from CA when I relocated for work. It has seen one Chicago winter -- last year's -- which wasn't really a winter at all. I used it to commute 3x/month about 2 hours on the freeway. At 70 mph, I averaged 30mpg! The picture is posted to prove it. Head gasket replaced at 123,xxx miles. Work was performed by Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz Chicago and I have all receipts and records to prove the $2200 repair. All other maintenance done regularly and on schedule. Brakes are good, it does need tires though. Brand new battery, deep-cycle something or other. MB genuine part replaced by the dealer when it was in for the head gasket. The sunroof works. The tracks and motor were replaced at 90,000 miles, under warranty, (at Fletcher Jones Newport Beach). It is a bit slow and sticky now, just needs some grease. I don't use it much, just leave the shade retracted and have the 3/4 glass roof allow all the light in. Windows tinted all around (not windshield though!) Here's the rundown of the rest: Needs the timing gear adjustment pulley replaced. I have been quoted about $600 - $1000 for the job, because of the labor component. I believe the part that is in question is $27 and made of plastic. This issue appeared after the head gasket was replaced. Car drives with CE light and a bit of a stutter on deceleration and downshift from 2nd to 1st, ie it drives fine -- but it should be fixed. I've noticed it runs a bit rich and the mpgs have dropped a little. Dealer says not their fault, but c'mon -- you disassemble the engine to do the head gasket, remove this part, replace it, and then there are issues? That's why we're selling it, since we only need one car living the city life. Drivers side door lock pops. Just needs to replaced / reset. I'd do this but it's cold outside and I can't wait until summer to sell. Interior is in great condition except the flip-up / flip-out cupholder needs to be replaced. A quick fix for anyone mechanically inclined, or with a relative who is mechanically inclined. I spent $2200 on the head gasket because I was planning on keeping the car. Before going ahead with the work, MB Fletcher did a full eval of the car -- chassis, brakes, transmission etc and said everything looked to be in great condition (ie it was worth it to do the repair because everything else looked good). 2002 was the only year they made these with the 2.3L, which ended up being a bit too much for the car, leading to the substitution of the 1.8L turbo in other years. It's fairly common for the 2.3L to need the head gasket replaced at the 125k mark. Anyway, we decided we just don't need two cars and that's why we're selling. It's a bargain compared to a lot of the other ones out there and these are getting quite hard to find, especially with the working panorama roof. Willing to ship cross country (buyer pays shipping) or drive and deliver up to a 250mi radius from Chicago .On Feb-07-13 at 09:23:08 PST, seller added the following information: There is a reserve ... but it is set very low - especially compared to the kbb and edmunds quoted values for this car, using 'fair' condition guidelines (a description reflecting the cam gear adj. pulley repair)!
