Vehicle Detail
Up next for auction is an amazing 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. This auction is for the Car only. The performance parts mentioned at the end of the auction are also for sale, but at additional prices. CLICK HERE TO VIEW ALL MY AUCTIONS FOR PORSCHE PARTS http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=jack-man&include=0&sort=3&rows=25&since=-1&rd=1 THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION - THIS CAR WILL SELL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER! It is finally time to say farewell to my 13 year affair with Porsches, specifically 944 Turbo S Cars. Typical story: I am selling this car and all my Porsche parts because I recently got married and we are starting a family. This is one of those little “hobbies” that needs to end… I have compiled quite a long description here as well as hundreds of photos and information. Read the ENTIRE description, view the photos, and ask questions if you are interested. Photos of the car and directly related items are here: 95 photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/ReeseEngineering/PORSCHEHOME 34 photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/ReeseEngineering/PORSCHEBEACH 17 photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/ReeseEngineering/DIRECTPARTS This car is exceptional. For people who don’t know about Porsche 944 Turbo (951) cars: This car is FAST! Most people can’t believe it is only a 4 cylinder. It handles amazingly well due to its excellent weight balance and it stops better than most vehicles on the road due to the oversize tires, and upgraded S4 brakes. It has not been hacked or had fake carbon fiber accent thrown everywhere. No crazy lights, racer decals, or bright colors all over the place under the hood. It was kept as close to original-looking as possible and some very nice factory Porsche parts and performance upgrade parts have been added. I have never taken it on the track or Autocross and it has been kept covered and protected since I took ownership. (I had a black 951S that I raced, already sold a year ago.) I would have kept it garaged, but I have a full-scale machine shop in my garage. History: I am the 3rd owner of this car. All owners including myself are non-smokers. I don’t know the 1st owner, but his name is Michael Schafir. I know from the paperwork. I first saw the car in Antioch. The 2nd owner was a friend of mine who bought the car but then decided he liked 911s instead of 944s I took ownership of the car 12/2/2006 and it had 71510 miles on it. It now has 83271 VIN: WP0AA0958GN153545Those are zeroes in the VIN I recently went to the dump and had them weigh the car for me: Weight with full fuel and me in the car 3200 lbs. I weighed myself at home - 196 lbs So I figure the car weighs-in around 3000 lbs fully fueled. We estimate the power output at the rear wheels to be just over 300HP. About 6 months ago I swapped-in a factory 951S computer (28 pin vs 24 pin) to eliminate some rough off-idle behavior. That fixed the idle issue, but reset the boost controller and fuel mapping on the chips. Therefore the car still needs some tuning and tweaking and a dyno run to get the most out of it again. I am a mechanical engineer and I have my own CNC machine shop, so I do 99% of the work on my cars. Since I started with Porsche 944 turbos 13 years ago, I have stockpiled a ton of spare Porsche parts. I even parted-out a black 1987 944 non-turbo and used a bunch of parts from that “donor” car to maintain my two 951s. (I also used to have a 1986 Black 951 factory S car that I sold 2 years ago.) My plan for this car was to restore a relatively low-mileage (under 80k) chassis it to where it is now… Then I was going to upgrade the engine to: 968 3.0L Block, with 16V S2 head, Carillo Rods, Custom Exhaust Header, Turbocharged, and install an Aluminum Torque Tube, and other components to lighten-up the car. I have all the parts to do this, I just never got around to it… In the meantime, I have kept this car well maintained as far as oil changes, cleaning the air filter, keeping the belts properly tensioned, and replacement of anything else that happened to need repair. (plastic pieces that get brittle with age, etc). This car came stock with the following option codes from Porsche: (as shown on the photo from the sticker in the rear hatch/spare tire area) M431 - 4 SPOKE LEATHER 363 MM STEERING WHEEL (No longer installed, and I don’t have it) M533 - ANTI THEFT DEVICE M650 - REMOVEABLE SUN ROOF M666 - WITHOUT LAQUER PRESERVATION AND CHROME PRESERVATION M900 - TOURISTS CAR M946 - SEAT COVERS FRONT - LEATHER/LEATHER/LEATHERETTE (I upgraded the seats to factory Sport Seats) The car was built-up for me by a friend of mine who worked as a Porsche mechanic in the SF bay area. After we found the car for sale and bought it, it was completely stripped down to the chassis and built back up from there. 2 other cars were used to complete this car: A 1987 944 Turbo charcoal grey “Race Car” and a 1988 red 944 non-turbo street car. The car had 71510 original miles on it at the time of rebuild, it now has 83271. This is basically a (mechanically) brand new car with only 12,000 miles on it! I have a folder full of receipts for all the parts that went into the rebuild, which I will hand over to the new owner. New parts came from: Sunset Porsche, Paragon Products, Lindsey Racing, Vertex Auto, Turbonetics, Devek, EBS Racing, and Technodyne to name some of the suppliers. The engine block and head were donated from the 1987 car and completely rebuilt with almost all new components. Here is the LONG list. Once I received the car, I added the following: - Rare Silver Hood Crest - I finally found an original one, and the silver is a good match on this silver car. However, it does have a small chip in the clear epoxy. It could be repaired, but I just left it as is. - JVC Head Unit 1CD/MP3 player w/ USB input using the factory speakers and their locations: (1 midrange in each door, and 2 midrange in the rear seat area, 4 speakers total) - 968 Aero Mirrors, painted to match existing vehicle color - Professional Window tinting - 993 RS Steering Wheel - Factory Sport Seats – Electrically adjustable Both Driver & passenger Excellent condition, no rips or seams failing. - New Battery 2006 Braille Zero-Weight, for which I machined a custom aluminum frame (frame included, but no Braille battery). - New Battery 2012 Costco Battery - for which I made a custom negative terminal wire extender. - RUF 17” Speedline Aluminum Alloy Wheels refinished in 2006, just before I received the car. - A set of high quality black aluminum Porsche Lug Nut wheel locks (4 pieces plus the wrench key insert). - BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Tires. Front: 245/40 ZR17 Rear: 275/40 ZR17 They all have approximately 7/32” tread left and are in very good condition. The interior is in very good condition and is a nice Tan color and it keeps the car from getting crazy hot in the sun like the black or rose colored interiors do. When we put the interior back in the car, we deliberately left the carpet on the driver’s side unglued. This is for access of the main wiring harness that runs along under the carpet. The idea was that I would later put in a much better sound system, so no sense gluing the carpet back in yet. There is a photo online of this situation. I will include a can of 3M industrial spray adhesive if you would like something to solve the carpet issue. The AC works and blows cool air when the heater water circuit is not on at the same time… (see list of repairs needed below) It also has some of the original Porsche Features: Factory Cassette Tape holders in the center armrest. The Glove box door supports are not broken like they are on every other Porsche 944 and 951 I have seen/owned. The original back hatch roll-out cover is in place and still works! MORE NEW PARTS installed on 3/2008: - New Radiator - New AC Condenser - New Power Steering Cooler - New Black Plastic Bat Wing - New Front Inner Fender Liners (both sides) What needs work: Electrical: There is a small electrical drain that remains on after the car is turned off. I have not had a chance to track it down, but I don’t drive the car often enough to worry about it. I simply disconnect the battery when I park the car for more than 24 hours to keep it from draining the battery. Speedo: Since this is a 6 speed in a 5 speed car there was the trick of hooking up the speedometer. The 6 speed transmission does not have the hall-effect (magnetic) sensor and sending unit. We installed a Dakota Digital speedometer conversion unit, but it has become intermittent and sometimes the speedo (and odometer) does not work. I purchased a kit from Lindsey Racing that solves this problem and eliminates the need for the Dakota Digital unit. I have not installed it yet – the Dakota Digital converter is still in the car. I will include the Lindsey Racing kit with the sale of the car. Heater & Climate control: The heater control valve is brand new, but it is not hooked up properly. I have a red hose that I pull suction on when I drive the car to keep the heater from coming on full-hot. The heater control valve just needs to be hooked up correctly. Worst case, the heater control module in the dash is no good. I have a spare that I will include in with the car just in case this is the issue. The AC works when the heater is not blowing hot air. One thing I have also noticed is that the clutch on the AC compressor drags slightly after use. It makes a squeaky noise, but you can make it go away by 1) Turning the AC back on to fully engage the clutch. 2) Blip the AC switch on and off again to get the clutch to fully disengage. Sloppy Shifter Linkage: The 6-speed shift linkage works fine, but it is somewhat loose. I bought a short-throw shifter from Lindsey Racing and was going to install it and at the same time tighten up the shift linkage. It may need a new bushing at the back where the linkage attaches to the transmission. Security System: There is a separate key slot on the body of the car on the driver side, just behind the door handle. This is for the factory M533 anti-theft security system. I have a different key for this slot, but I have never used it or activated it. Apparently it disables the electrical system to the engine when activated. Honestly I do not want to risk disabling the car or any other issues that may arise from tampering with it. You are welcome to try it once you have the car in your possession. Sunroof: After I received the car, I tested the sunroof and it worked. After that I have never attempted to use the sunroof again. Here’s why: On my other 944s, the sunroof works as far as raise and lower, but it is not the best mechanism. You need to push the button and then have another person push down on the sunroof right as it is almost completely closed in order for it to seat all the way down. Once this became an issue, I didn’t use the sunroof on any 944s. I learned not to mess with it. I believe the sunroof is linked to the factory lockout security system. Cosmetics/other issues: Hood Slightly Warped, Headlight Covers Scratched: The hood has some warpage to it. You can’t even see it in the photos. The previous owner used the hood to make a mold for a carbon fiber hood. (Hence why it also has the windshield washer squirters removed.) He Vacuum-Bagged the hood, pulled too much vacuum, and tweaked it. You can only see it if you get up close, crouch down, and look across the hood. Driving around town, nobody would ever know, even when parked. However I have another 951 Hood that I will include with the car. The spare hood is blue color and does have the squirters in it. The headlight covers are also scratched. At the same time the previous owner was making carbon fiber parts, he took the headlight covers off and put them upside down on something scratchy, thinking he would replace them later. Anyhow, I have other covers I will include. They are black. You could paint the spare hood and covers, and then swap them in and sell (or throw away) the old parts. No downtime on the car, plus extra parts to sell or keep. This is the ORIGINAL PAINT and there are some paint scrapes and blems on the car. The biggest ding is near the rear bumper on the passenger side see photos. It has been there since before I owned the car. It is not rusting so I decided to leave it instead of trying to repair it. The dash has developed quite a few cracks (as they always do) at the top windshield defrost vents. The rear mat in the hatchback area sags in the rear where it should attach to the body just below the hatch glass. It is also slightly discolored in some places. The windshield washer squirters have never worked since I owned the car. In fact, the squirters are not even in the hood, since it was used to make a carbon fiber copy. The pump is not connected to the hoses either. I just use a squeegee when I gas-up. The registration was renewed in CA in November 2012 and it was smogged at that time. If you are in CA, you should be good without needing smog for another year and a half. However, I cannot guarantee that the DMV will see it that way. Therefore, the car is sold as-is: if Smog testing is required to register the vehicle in your name, then you will need to get the car smogged and pay for the smog service. It passes the Smog (sniffer) test here in SB in it's current configuration. (It has a test pipe - no CAT installed) However I will include the factory CAT pipe if you would like it. Based on the “Needs Work” and description above these items are provided: - Spare Hood (Currently Painted BLUE) - Spare Headlight Covers (Currently Painted BLACK) - Factory Catalytic Converter Pipe - Lindsey Racing Short Throw Shifter - Lindsey Racing Speedo Sensor Conversion Kit for 6-speed The car comes with a factory inflatable spare tire from a 951S that actually FITS over the larger S4 brakes. I do not have the original air compressor, however I do have the Very rare ORIGINAL Porsche tool kit in it’s original pouch, an Aluminum Jack, and Cranker Handle AND a very rare thread-in towing ring for the front bumper. I will also include all manuals I have, the original owners manuals that came with the car, as well as a CD with digital PDFs of the factory Porsche repair manuals for ALL 944 and 951 cars. IMPORTANT: If you want ALL the parts I have just listed (hood, CAT pipe, etc) you will need another vehicle to carry them. The extra hood and the CAT pipe will not fit in the car. If you don't want the CAT and the Hood, then you could theoretically come drive it home. However I won't let it leave until full payment is received, and shows up in my bank account. AND I will NOT deduct any money from the sale if you don't take the hood, the Cat Pipe, or any of the other parts listed. I have disclosed everything I know about the vehicle and there are no known issues other than what I have discussed above. The car is sold as is and as with any 20+ year old chassis, there could be other issues I haven't found or don't know about. I’m not looking to trade this car and all the parts for any other vehicles or items. Payment Methods Certified bank check for the balance of the vehicle and parts (car will not be delivered until this clears). Neither the vehicle nor the title will be released until all funds have cleared. Title The title is free and clear and will be presented to the buyer after all financial transactions have been completed. Warranty This vehicle is being sold AS-IS. AS-IS is here defined as having no warranty stated, implied or otherwise expressed in any way, shape or form. The buyer assumes all and total responsibility for all or any defects known or unknown, apparent or non-apparent with this vehicle. Such defects are not limited to any area, system or part of the vehicle, but include the entire vehicle and all or any of its parts, systems or areas associated with it in all or any way. I have done my best to represent this vehicle as it appears, however, the seller is not responsible for, does not guarantee or warranty the correctness of this listing, the information contained within it, or any comments/responses to questions made about the vehicle listed, whether these be verbal or written form. If you do not fully understand or do not completely agree to the above, do not bid or purchase this vehicle. Deposit & Payment of Remaining Balance A five hundred dollar ($500) non-refundable payment through Paypal to payment@reeseengineering.com is required twenty-four (24) hours after the auction has ended to secure the transaction. This payment is required for the costs, time and loss of potential buyers associated with the auction should the sale not be completed. The remaining balance due must be paid within five (5) business days of the close of the auction. The vehicle will not be delivered until all financial transactions have been completed. If the winning bidder either fails to pay the five hundred dollar ($500) payment within twenty-four (24) hours of the auction close, or does not pay the remaining balance within the five (5) business day period, the seller has the right to refuse the sale and any payment to the seller will not be returned to the buyer. If the buyer decides after agreeing to purchase the vehicle that he or she does no longer wants the vehicle, no refund of any kind will be issued. Shipping I will gladly assist the buyer with the shipping of his or her vehicle, but this is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. The buyer is responsible for all shipping charges. You would need to bring a big (3/4 ton or larger) truck for the parts and a flatbed trailer for the car. OR just a big truck and a friend to help drive: you drive the Porsche home, with some parts loaded in the passenger seat and in the back and we load the rest of the parts in the truck as well. I will not ship the parts – YOU MUST COME PICK THEM UP! If you INSIST that I crate and ship these parts, there will be an extra $500 crating fee for the hood, Catalytic converter and everything else have listed. Notice to Bidders Seller reserves the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early should the vehicle no longer be available for sale. This car is being listed as a private auction format to reduce the amount of risk for the bidder. If you are interested in performance and spare parts for this car, contact me. The following parts are not included in this auction, but are available in a seperate transaction: OTHER (SPARE) 944 & 951 PARTS: I cannot list every single part here, however here is a partial list below. After that, there will be a 1 week delay. This may impact my ability to work with the high bidder to get the car delivered quickly.I will do everything I can to expedite getting the car to the high bidder. However this mostly has to do with the buyer getting the payment to me ASAP,and whether or not the car will be picked up in person or shipped via truck. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
