Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a super clean 1994 Chevrolet S-10 factory electric car, built by US Electricar, a company developed with Hughes and GM. These cars were equipped with the General Motors/Hughes 50kw "Dolphin" motor / controller and features the newer type AC induction motor like all the higher end EV cars have today. This is a solid, great driving factory made EV truck, which may easily become a collector car, being one of the first EV cars with the AC drive technology as used in the EV1. This car also includes:Air conditioningPower steeringPower brakesCamper ShellRear Air Ride Shocks On-board 120/240 charger for charging anywhere Ability to charge at public electric charging outlets (with adapter)Recent New Larger Battery Pack The motor in the car is a 50kw AC induction motor, along with a 50kw controller that includes an internal 12 volt converter for charging the accessory battery while driving. Features such as dual throttle controls, safety checks, and water cooling systems made for a very nice electric car experience. In addition this car has the additional fuses installed to protect the system. The car will easily seat 3 people, and has a locking camper shell in the truck bed for groceries, tools or other items. Because the batteries are mostly under the truck bed, it has a low center of gravity and is quite nice to drive. Reliable: With this Hughes / GM developed AC Motor drive train, the car can easily drive on highways at 70+mph. I have had this car for 5 years, and aside from replacing the battery pack and upgrading the motor controller, I really haven't had to do anything else to it, it drives great. I also have a similar US Electricar 4 door Prizm sedan, which is also fun to drive car. Condition: Truck is in great condition for a car that has only 11K miles on it. Body is solid. There is a small dent on the passenger lower door. I see no rust. Tires have good tread but will need to be upgraded due to age. Battery upgraded: The newer batteries have few miles on them and currently drives about 25 miles per charge. The batteries are easy to get to and replace, you can easily replace a single battery should such service be needed. There are a quanity of 26 Full River DC105-12 12 Volt 105 AH AGM Maintenance Free, Deep Cycle, standard truck batteries that propell this truck. A battery upgrade to Lithium is simple being that this battery type is one of the most common deep cycle truck batteries around. A possible Lithium upgrade would be the Valance Lithium Battery, for over a 100 mile range. The existing battery interconnects and cables are all new and really heavy duty. There is a battery ballance circuit already on board using a common Zener diode for bypass. See the battery specifications at: fullriverdcbattery.com/media/pdf/spec-sheets/dc-series/DC105-12.pdf Regenerative Braking: With most AC induction traction drive systems, with a motor controller, regenerative braking is a bonus feature. This car has this, so when you step on the brakes, the kinetic energy of the ruck moving down the road gets transformed by the motor, which then turns into a generator, to then store the braking energy back into the battery pack. Also, driving down a hill, you can increase the regenerative braking by shifting the truck into lower drive (D1 or D2) on the P,R,D selector, and thus charge the battery pack. On Board Metering: In the dash, high end, voltage and current meters give you an easy glance as to pack voltage and current as being used or regenerated by braking. On board charger flexibility: The charger is an updated heavy duty Manzanita Micro PFC 30M. This charger can accept 110 or 220 volt inputs at up to 30 amps. The charger can be dialed in by the knob on the front panel, as to the amount of current you wish to charge at (0-30). So, you can charge by a common 110 Volt outlet at less than 15 amps, a dedicated 20 amp at 110 volt, or a dryer type outlet being 30 amp at 240 volt. Future Lithium Pack Upgradeable: One can easily convert this car to use a lithium pack battery pack if desired, or enjoy it as it is with the standard battery pack. The car's electrical specifications are 300 volts nominal, 390 volts at peak charge, 250 volts at low-voltage cutoff, 60 amp draws while driving, and 200 amp draws at peak power. Max speed is around 72 MPH and is a full freeway drivable car. On Line Support: There is an excellent group on Yahoo Groups that has a lot of information including drawings, manuals and technical expertise should you need such with future maintenance. The group address is: //autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/uselectricar/ Also included with the truck will be such additional documentation. This truck is sold "Where is" in San Diego. There is no existing warranty on the car, the sale will be final, no returns. Buyer to pick up vehicle in San Diego or we can help load the vehicle on to a shipping truck that you arrange for. Shipping the truck anywhere is easy, a car carrier arrives and we load the truck on for door to door transportation. I shipped a similar EV car to Louisiana last year to another happy owner. We can help you arrange for shipping. New owner to understand that Electric Cars operate at high DC voltages, so care and understanding of electrical safety is needed to perform maintenance or modifications to the vehicle. Seller is held harmless from all claims from this transaction, car is sold working and in "As Is" condition. Seller reserves the right to end this auction early should truck sell locally. This truck is a great platform to test other types of battery chemistries should the new owner be a developer. This truck was also owned and used to evaluate EV performance by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. They added the larger sized battery pack, which uses the common truck 100 AH truck battery. There are 24 batteries that power the truck for around 50 miles when new. If you have any other questions, please let me know. I've enjoyed this car, and I would like it to go to a new owner who will care for it and enjoy it.
