Vehicle Detail

Truly a rare find on a 1979 F-150 4x4!!! The odometer reads 46,000 miles and I have absolutely no reason to doubt that. With the exception of the rims and tires this truck is all original, and I mean right down to the shocks! Look very carefully at the photos, they're HQ pictures taken at 1920 rez. Its got a 5.8L 351m V-8 with a 2V carb, a C-6 automatic 3-speed transmission mated to a np203 transfer case. This truck is full time 4-wheel drive. An aftermarket conversion kit is available if you prefer part time 2WD with lockout hubs. Other options include power steering, power brakes, a cargo light, and its original AM/FM stereo which has terrible reception but to remove it would be a sin (a modern stereo installed underdash would be most appropriate here). Its also got Ford's "freewheeling package" which basically consists of the reflective stickers on the exterior sides, clearance lights on the roof, and a racy interior with two-tone bench seat, and striping on the dash. And thats pretty much it. It does NOT have A/C, cruise control, or any other creature comforts. I AM the 3rd owner of this truck. The original owner, a farmer from Wisconsin kept it for some 25-26 years, so the story goes, and I believe it! I've had this truck for about a year. I don't drive it very often and keep it on the backburner as a project with unlimited potential, or simply use it as is! But wifey disagrees (because wifey can't get her car in the garage, because wifey can't drive, which is why we're all here!). The only work I've done to it so far was to replace the exhaust. It now has a brand new exhaust system with Hooker steel tube headers, and a Hooker dual exhaust kit specifially designed for this truck. Professionally installed. It sounds good! The exhaust note has a more mellow tone instead of being really loud and obnoxious. I included a photo of the original exhaust manifold from the drivers side which was more or less protected from the elements by the fenderwell. As you can see it still has the original grey factory paint. With miles and use it would be all rusted out. It's strictly stock otherwise. The motor starts right up everytime and runs strong. Its been serviced, not by me, but it apparently has newer plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belts, hoses. The cooling systems appears to have been flushed and the antifreeze is nice and green. It's got a biga$$ radiator so it runs nice and cool. No issues whatsoever of overheating or running hot. It DOES NOT smoke or burn oil. It DOES leak some oil though, no puddles but a few drops here and there, just enough to stain your driveway and pi$$ you off! The pan gasket is bleeding but the rear main is fine. It has a tick in the valvetrain on the drivers side. In my opinion, even though it runs good and strong, the motor should be rebuilt due to age rather than use with all new gaskets, a bigger camshaft, and some 4BBL induction. Or, better yet, replaced wirh a high end crate engine. Options here are simply unlimited! Tranny shifts fine: 1-2-3....and you're in high gear at around 15 mph, its all about low end torque which truly makes it an old school 4x4. This truck drives rather nice. Theres no rattles, no sqeaks, the steering is nice and tight, there's no play in the wheel whatsoever. Yet, if you look underneath, everything has the same patina, there's no evidence that anything has been replaced! Once again, you be the judge! It could use a new set of tires, but then again couldn't we all! RUST! This truck does have some rust! Mostly towards the back. The rear axle and frame are rusty, look closely at the photos. It looks as though someone backed it into a lake, time and again, to slip a boat. Underneath, the bed of the truck is perfect, protected by a coat of what appears to be a former transmission leak, but the rear of the frame and the rear axel need to be sandblasted and recoated. The interior, in my opinion, is amazing! Here is the proof in the pudding! The original factory vinyl bench seat DOES have a tear on the drivers side, but the passenger side dosn't even have a wrinkle in it! Its like nobody ever sat there! The gas pedal is perfect! The original brake pedal pad has so little wear on it! The original floor mat is magnificant! The glass is flawless! The dash panel and pad are original and perfect, no cracks, no scratches whatsoever! Everything works! In fact, every light bulb works including the one in the ashtray!
