1979 Lotus Esprit S2. This is a very rare World Championship Edition built to Commemorate Lotus winning the 1978 Formula 1 World Championship in the John Player Special GT Race Car driven by Mario Andretti. This Lotus comes with a Certificate of Provenance from Lotus Cars Ltd. confirming this to be one of the 53 Special Editions built for the US market in 1979. The Certificate is signed by Andy Graham who is the Lotus Company Archivist. This car is #31 of the 53 Federal (US Market) cars. In 1979 Lotus launched this special edition Esprit S2 which was mechanically identical to a standard S2, it features the colors of the John Player livery race cars - Black and Gold. Included is "World Champion" written on the flanks, a gold garland around the nose badge, the commemorative edition number (31) next to the fuel filler, "Mario Andretti Edition" on the windshield, and gold special edition wheels. The car also has 2 Factory placed plaques of commemoration, one on the dash and one on the rear deck. It is powered by the Lotus 4 Cylinder 2.0 Litre engine with 4 carburetors and a 5-Speed transmission. The car starts right up and runs as good as a 1979 Lotus should. It is in general overall very good condition and has Michelin tires on the Factory JPS wheels. The paint appears to be original and is in good condition with a good gloss.
