Vehicle Detail
GM seems to have a tradition of sometimes introducing a new model before it's completely engineered, then cancelling it just when they get it right. Three examples come to mind, the Corvair (those turbo Spyders they built at the end were great little cars!) the Fiero (by '88, they figured out the oil filter problem that was causing the engine failures and fires and had added a 5 speed tranny, I really liked my '88 GT!) and the 94-96 Impala SS The 94 I had was equipped with a column shifted automatic, which didn't fit the performance image, and the digital dash became quite annoying when I'd cruise down the interstate with the speedo and tach constantly changing! So, when I got a chance to acquire a 96 SS with the console mounted shifter and analog dash, I grabbed it. Now I've got a chance to buy a '57 Delivery with Impala underpinnings that I'll use as my daily driver, so it's time to let the "Imp" go to a new home. I'm the third owner (have CarFax) and it's been a Southern car all it's life. First sold in Atlanta, the woman owner drove it to her winter place in Key West, putting over 100,000 highway miles on it. Second owner was in Mooresville, NC and I live in Orlando, FL, so it has no rust. I bought it in 2002 and have only put 30,000 miles on it, cuz I lived 2 miles from work and have now been retired for five years. I was a professional mechanic in my younger days and have carefully maintained the car with Mobil 1, good filters, synthetic diff grease, frequent waxes, etc Altho I've tried to keep it stock a couple performance changes have been made, an airfoil was installed in the throttle body, the hose running heated water to the intake was re-routed (if you live up north you might want to put that back if you plan to drive in the winter) and a cold air intake added. The original system comes with the car. Water pump, dist cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs and serpentine belt are all new, I just put on new brake pads all around last week. Dunno how many miles are on the tires but they are in great shape. Paint is original with the exception of the front/rear bumpers and spoiler, which I had touched up a few years ago, but they are chipping, fading some. I had the windows tinted all around to protect the interior, which I have religiously maintained with saddle soap, leather and vinyl conditioners, etc. It has a dash mat, could use new carpet. The drivers side seat belt broke, a new one from the dealer is $300! so I put in an aftermarket, which is black and sometimes gets caught and won't pull out right away, I've gotta mess with it.. Forgot to mention the 5000# trailer hitch, wiring is in the trunk, too.
