Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1979 Hurst Oldsmobile (Automatic) 72000 original miles Overview: I bought this vehicle in July 2011 to save it from the elements. I would really like to see this car be bought by someone who wants to completely restore it, and have adjusted my reserve according to the previous listing bids. A few bids on this and someone is going to own it! After purchasing it, I determined which parts needed to be replaced or refurbished to return it to a reliable driver, and below is a list of work completed. Making the car a reliable driver: I replaced or refurbished many parts during this process. Here’s a summary of the work performed and current condition of items: Replaced the water pump, heater core, thermostat, upper/lower radiator and heater hosesReplaced power steering hosesReplaced transmission lines & modulator valveReplaced all the original GM stamped vacuum lines (I was amazed they still had the stamps on them but were completely gooey and dry rotted)Replaced L&R front brake calipers along with the left front wheel bearing Replaced L&R front and L&R rear shocksReplaced the batteryReplaced the windshieldThe original water pump, heater core, seat belts, will be provided to the purchaser.Rebuilt the original alternator and reinstalled it.The Original Rochester 4 barrel carburetor has been rebuilt. Replaced all fluids in the car including oil, rear differential, coolant, power steering, transmission & brake fluid. I also replaced most of the interior including the headliner, most plastic interior trim with OEM & aftermarket parts when OEM weren't available, seat belts and carpet. I also cleaned but did not replace the original stock white vinyl seat covers.Replaced passenger side power window motor and switch. Condition: At this point, I would rate this car a 5.5 to 6.0 on a 10 point scale. Overall, the exterior is in fair/good condition and the interior is in very good condition. I’ve included pictures of the interior and exterior for your reference. The power windows, power locks, cruise control, power brakes, power steering work correctly. The tilt steering wheel and windshield wipers also work properly. The car drives nicely and can be driven with confidence. I would feel comfortable driving this car across the country based on its current condition. Additional: Clear Virginia Title. This vehicle was originally purchased at Gowen Oldsmobile in Charlotte NC and still has the dealer decal on the trunk lid. It had an Emory University parking pass on the rear bumper dated 1984 which I removed. If you are the original owner of the car and want it back to restore, here is your car!Original 350 V-8 Engine, Block stamp #39M539805, 3=Olds, 9=Year built, M=Lansing Michigan, matches the last 6 of VIN.Original TH-350 Transmission (Date Stamped 04-79)Original Alternator, #1102860, 63A, 9G26 = 1979 July 26th, 12VNEG.Original Rochester 4BBL Quadra jet, stamp #17059253/0949 BZA = 1705 (1976-1979), 9 = Model Year 1979, 2 = Federal standard four-barrel Quadra jet (Non California emissions), 5 = Oldsmobile Division, 3 = Transmission usage (even #’s are often associated with manual transmissions & Odd #’s with Automatics, BUT THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE!), 094 = manufactured on 04 April, 9 = 1979.The original single track (non-posi) rear end (date stamped correctly, still in the car). Issues: There are several known issues which I will try my best to describe: Most of the paint is original except the entire driver’s side, it was in a minor accident (driver side door/fender) and appears to have been properly repaired. Passenger side valve cover leaks a small amount of oil. There is also a small dent on the driver side rear quarter panel which appears to have been vandalized after the driver’s side was painted from the accident. Interior floor panels were wire brushed and small holes were filled with epoxy then the entire floor was top coated with silver rustoleum paint. The dash has a few cracks, the intermittent wiper plastic face is cracked (it works correctly). There is a rust perforation around trunk lid on the driver’s side. The passenger door probably needs to be replaced because of rot, and moderate rust on the passenger panel in front of the rear wheel (nothing major) but if you plan on restoring this classic muscle car, repairing rust is a normal part of the restoration process. The AC compressor is locked up and inoperable. The Hurst knob on the shifter is stripped and needs to be replaced. The driver side lower seat chrome is cracked, and the black plastic power seat cable cover is missing.2 pieces of chrome are missing, a 2 inch piece on the hood near the windshield on the driver’s side and a 7 inch piece behind the front wheel well on the passenger side. There may be other issues with the car that I am not aware of, and I have tried to describe this vehicle to the best of my ability. I’ve only owned it for about a year and 1/2 and wanted to get it back on the road and save it from destruction. Mission accomplished!, and at this point I would like to do more but need to switch gears to focus on restoring another car which has personal meaning to me. Notes: The original service manuals (CD ROM) come with the vehicle as well as the original seat belts that were in the car when I bought it, original water pump, and other misc parts. This vehicle has a current Virginia inspection valid until Aug 2013, drives great, and is driven only on nice days, otherwise it is in the garage since I purchased it in July 2011. If you would like to see a picture of a particular item on the car, please email me and I will provide it/them to you. The reserve is very reasonable and a little below what I consider fair for the vehicle in it's current condition. Shipping: If you do not live in Virginia, you may wish to contact Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) to have the vehicle transported to your location and I will gladly drop it off at the DAS terminal in Ashland, Virginia. I will also consider picking the buyer up at the Richmond airport so they can drive it home, but please let me know via contact message if you are considering this method and please keep in mind the upcoming holidays when asking me to pick you up. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick-up or shipping/removal within 10 days of cleared payment, unless arrangements are made for me to hold it longer than 10 days prior to the purchase. BIDDING AND PAYMENT: Deposit of US $500.00 via PayPal within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED AND HAVE A FEEDBACK SCORE OF 5 OR BELOW, YOU MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO BIDDING OR YOUR BID WILL BE IGNORED BY MY BUYING PARAMETERS.
