Vehicle Detail
This truck is from farm estate in North Dakota. It was in use up until about 6-7 years ago when Dad had some shingling done on the lower level of his house and a little later hauled out his garbage pile to the pit. After that it sat only ran rarely. Now it’s for sale from his estate. This truck is a fix-it upper, and will need to be hauled to its new home, but the engine does run, and so probably could be driven up ramps unto a trailer. This is a 1967 Dodge D-500, 2 ton, Heavy Duty 318-2 V-8 engine (cylinders were a little bigger in the Heavy Duty model), Eaton Model 13802. Mileage meter reads 8,428 miles, so guessing that’s on second round. On both the doors it says this truck weighs about 9,400 pounds and rated at 26,000 gross weight when loaded. This truck has a 14 ft. steel grain box that is in good condition and there is a tow hitch on the back. Tires are fairly good, to good. Dad did not have a pressure washer and it's cold here now, so it's unwashed. Measurements: The truck is about 23’ 4” long, with about a 128” wheel base (center of front hub to center of rear hub). Height from ground to top of box is about 7’ 6”. The 14’ box is about 7’ 10” wide, and there is a rebar foot rail that makes the total box width about 8’ 2”. Please look at pictures below to see condition. What makes this truck rare and collectable, is it still has the AGSCO green and yellow paint on it. When these trucks were sold, most new owners repainted them, so they are hard to find with the AGSCO paint still on them. AGSCO was a very popular agricultural product company in the Midwest part of United States during the 50’s through 80’s and they are still in business but under a different name. They sold seed, farm chemicals like DB-Green, fertilizer, and farm buildings. You can search eBay current or completed auctions for “AGSCO”, to see some AGSCO memorabilia. Many farmers, who have been in business more than 20 years in the Midwest, will remember this company. This truck could be a fun restore project to parade with if restored to its full AGSCO glory. But the size of this truck is just dandy for a hobby farm, stockman, or horse ranch who could use a smaller truck to handle feed and seed. I asked my nephew and brother to look under the hood one recent weekend afternoon, and get it running so the engine gets some lube, let me know what they find wrong with it. We also added more anti-freeze since cold weather was coming. Here is a list they gave me of what needs work, and may not include everything, but these issues are known: 1. The in cab fuel tank does not leak. Of the two outside saddle tanks, one has rust out, the other is questionable. 2. The manual fuel tank switch valve handle is broke and will not turn. The short fuel line from the cab tank appears to suck air, plan to replace it. A temporary plastic line by-pass was installed, just to get the truck running and drive around the yard a little while so the cylinders get some lube. 3. Fuel pump is dried out and leaking. 4. Needs a new carburetor gasket kit installed. 5. Brakes are not dependable. 6. Exhaust system needs updating. 7. Cab seat needs new pad and cover. I’m not planning to hire a mechanic to go through it and then double its price. So, this truck is offered “As Is” as a fix-it upper. It comes with a clear title. It has not been licensed for several years. Yes it needs some work, but you can tell in the pictures that the box and the cab body are not all banged up, it's a pretty decent truck. This list above likely does not include all the things that may need attention. I don’t think the guys tried the hoist nor the lights, as they didn’t report on that, but I see in the video towards the end, the headlights were turned on and off. But, if you are handy under the hood, here is a nice collectable restore project. For Sale, “As Is”, from my Dad’s estate. My nephew took a little video of it running with his cell phone, not the best video, but it shows you it was running, see it below. Be sure to view the large pictures under the video below. We could give some tips on how to get a hauler for this truck. Shipping is the responsibility of the winning buyer.
