Vehicle Detail
1925 Studebaker Phaeton Duplex offered for sale at NO RESERVE. If a bid is made at starting price it WILL sell. This is the last remaining car from the estate of David Neitzel and his collection of Studebakers. David and Barbara were collectors of the finer things of years past as antique dealers for over 40 years. Mr. Neitzel bought and sold and restored numerous Studebakers over the years eventually ending with several in his collection at the time of his passing. Most of his restorations were on the cars of the 1920's and currently one of these is on permenant display at the Studebaker Museum in South Bend IN. Mr. Neitzel was well known and respected for his techincal expertise thoughout the old cars trade. Along with being a long time restorer and enthusiast he also was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and Historic Auto Club (HAC) and having held positions of office. Many of his cars have graced the cover of Turning Wheels Magazine (including this car--Nov. 2000 Vol 32 No. 11) and mention has been made of his cars in Hemmings Motors News and various other publications. One of Mr. Neitzel's greatest joys came from being invited to show at the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn Michigan. This 1925 Phaeton originated from Minnesota and was purchased at auction in St Charles, Missouri by the Neitzel's just before the big flood of 1993 saving it from sure destruction. Although it was almost completely intact it did need total restoration, hence Mr. Neitzel's expertise came into play. Everything was redone to bring this fabulous car back to it's beauty and quality of the time and era. Please note that Mr. Neitzel never "over restored" his cars, but tried to duplicate as if it were rolling right off the old assembly line of the day. His motivation was to never produce a trailer queen but rather a dependable, reliable driver with good eye appeal. Mr.Neitzel received more than 25 awards for showing this car and was quite happy that most were 2nd place wins, being beat out by the non-driver cars. Photos document all stages of the restoration, receipts are also available and included in the sale. Please note that over $20000 in 1995 money was spent along with approx 500 man hours of labor. Other documentation includes past title, registrations and some hand written history by Barbara Neitzel. Brief description of the rebuild includes replacing all of the wood on the vehicle, the motor was completely overhauled, new leather interior with soft sided roll up weather curtains. All body work, new tu-tone paint (actually available in 1925), vinyl top. Chrome radiator shell complimented by fancy Stude thermometer and shifter knob. Please be advised that this was a complete body off with absolutely nothing, nothing untouched. Since restoration in 1995 car has logged about 500 miles with odometer now a click over 30,000 miles. Some have called this model a "poor man's limo" because of some of the available options. Some extras were windshield wiper, cowl lights, leather interior, chrome radiator shell, vinyl top, fancy dash, rear foot rest, grab rail and foot heater. Wood spoke wheels, wood grain trim along door tops high lights paint job. And so much more. Tool kit, jack, wool lap blanket, spanner wrench, hard side curtain (unrestored) are also part of the sale. Please note that 1925 Studebaker offered several models of Phaetons with 4 door likely most popular. However compared to the mass produced Ford and Chevy models of the year this car would be more scarce.. And even less today compared to those manufacturers. For more information please contact Mark Neitzel at neitzelm@yahoo.com or call direct at 317-287-9357. Car is available with notice for inspection outside Mooresville, IN On Dec-02-12 at 05:27:36 PST, seller added the following information: Just to let you all know Stude went for a leisurely cruise yesterday. Drives like 1925 and just like it should!!!!
