Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1987 Austin Mini Mayfair with a rare webasto roof. Please note this is a 1987, not a 1980 model as it states above, Ebay does not understand the UK Vin/Chassis #'s so had to enter 1980 model to get around that. Ebay does not require a vin# for cars 1980 or older. I purchased the Mini in July this year while I was in the UK and imported the Mini myself when I returned to the USA. I bought the car from an older gentleman who had recently had a hip replacement and was finding it hard to get in and out of the Mini so reluctantly he decided to sell the car. Minis of this age have usually had around 15 owners by now, I am only the 6th owner of this car. I have a duplicate copy of the UK V5 Registration in my name from the UK DMV which shows how many owners the car has had. The previous owner bought the car in 2006 from his daughter who moved to Canada who owned the car from 1999-2006, so it was in the same family for 13 years from 1999-2012. From what the previous owner told me, the interior is all original which is still in very very good condition when you consider it is 25 years old. One minor flaw on the interior is a small tear on the back of the drivers seat which I have included a picture of. The webasto sliding roof is also the original roof in very good condition, no tears or cracks or anything like that and DOES NOT leak and locks tight as it should when closed As for the exterior of the car it had a full restoration in 2007 shortly after the previous owner purchased the car from his daughter. Any welding that was required was done, the passenger side A-panel and the drivers side door both had skins put on during the restoration. The car then had a full re-spray. The paint and bodywork is still in very very good condition, rust-free, there is one small bubble in the paint right next to the rear license plate which I have included a picture of. There are a couple of small dings on the passenger side just in front of the rear wheel arch which I have also included a picture of but they are very un-noticeable and I dont think you can even see them in the photo. Other than that the paintwork is in very good condition. The complete underside of the car was coated in waxoyl. There are no cracks/chips in the windshield or any of the windows. Also during the restoration, the car had the front brake disc conversion done, so it has discs on the front and drums on the rear. The Mini has the 998cc motor and a 4-speed manual transmission that both run and shift as they should. Runs on Premium Unleaded. The car starts first time every time with minimal choke if any. While I was in the UK with the car, it had a full oil/filter change and also had new spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor arm fitted……the car didn’t need any of these but since I was in the UK and parts are cheap, I had them fitted anyway. Has the 12" Mini-Lite wheels which are all in exceptional condition, no rust/rot and has four matching Falken 155/60/12 tires all with great tread. The Mini has now done 49,056 miles which I believe to be genuine when you take into consideration the condition of the car inside and out. The previous owner only insured the car to drive in the summer so he could attend the Mini Car Club meets/shows, the rest of the time it was dry stored in his garage. The Mini comes with a factory spare wheel and jack set in the boot/trunk. Comes with 2 sets of keys. One key for the two doors and trunk, one key for the ignition, one key for the fuel cap and a small key to pull up the radio antenna. Absolutely everything on the car works, all the gauges, all the lights, turn signals, hazard lights, front and rear screen defrosters and the heater/fan. Has been fitted with a Pioneer CD head unit with an under dash mounting kit and Pioneer speakers in the rear which all work perfectly. In the UK cars have a strict annual inspection called an MOT. The MOT was performed on July 20th 2012 and passed, MOT certificate comes with the car and is valid until July 19th, 2013. No advisories were noted on the certificate which means that during the inspection, nothing was found that needed replacing immediately or in the near future. Many of you Mini enthusiasts I’m sure will be familiar with the MiniWorld magazine published in the UK, this car was featured in the November 2004 edition of MiniWorld, a copy of this edition comes with the car. The car comes with a clean and clear Alabama Title, also the duplicate copy of the UK V5 Registration and also the original UK number plates for the front and back come with the car. I personally drove this car from July to September in the UK and also drove it long distance 454 miles from Brunswick GA to Silverhill AL when the car arrived in the USA, the car drives perfectly without fault. The car is a real head turner and gets attention everywhere it goes. Please note the mileage will increase slightly as the car is being used and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime since I have the car advertised elsewhere also. I can help arrange shipping at the buyers expense. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. On Dec-03-12 at 07:20:00 PST, seller added the following information: Several people have requested photos of the sills which I have just uploaded. Also several people have asked about the rear windows, they are the Cooper style windows that open out at the back. I am at work a lot but if anybody has any questions either email me through ebay or you can send me a text message (251) 424-5896.
