The car was sold new to Mr. RG Harper of Des Moines, IA on January14th, 1971. The car was brought to Arizona full time by about 1975 when Mr Harper retired and moved out west. That means the car has lived all but 4 years in the dry Arizona climate beautifully preserving the body and chrome. The car is an all original survivor and has a full service history with over $5000 being spent on maintenance and upkeep over the past 4 years. The paint on the car is all original in striking Olympic White and is in overall good condition for its age and originality. There are the expected touchups around the car and the roof does have some lacquer checking and touched up chips. The car has been completely inspected underneath from front to back and is solid as a rock as any well cared for garaged car should be, and has never been in any accidents. The car is riding on original steel Mercedes wheels and hubcaps with very nice new Hankook tires. All chrome trim, glass, and rubber seals are in great shape. The interior is almost all original condition all around. The supple black seats are all in very good condition and look very nice, which shows the quality of material used in this car. The carpets are all very nice are not worn or damaged, and the drivers mat was just restored using original MB loop carpet. All dials and controls function as they should, power windows and other accessories are fully functional and both front window regulators were just replaced and work awesome. The Becker Am/Fm system sounds great with the original sound system. All lights, gauges switches, and accessories work as they should. The trunk compartment is very clean and does have the original jack, the spare tire and wheel, and a brand new trunk mat. The trunk pan is solid and the cardboard inserts are still in nice shape. Mechanically, this 280SEL runs GREAT! The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. The 2.8L engine is very quick and responsive. It is reliable, easy to fix, and parts are readily available. The suspension is very tight and feels solid even at autobahn speeds above 90mph. The car was always regularly serviced and the car was well cared for. The car just had the A/C serviced and has a brand new radiator, new exhaust, new brakes, all new charging system and starter, and a full tune up! The A/C in this car is amazing and will freeze you out of the car! Another neat thing about this car is that it has every original booklet and instruction card since new even right down to the Hirshman antenna key and pre-delivery inspection sheet. It is rare to find these cars with all of the original books preserved in this condition. The car will even include the original dealer showroom brochure. All in all, this is one of the neatest Mercedes that I have had the privilege of being associated with. It has been professionally maintained and truly loved by its previous owners.
