Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1976 Camaro. I have owned this car since 1988. It was a daily driver for 10 years. I bought this Camaro off the used car lot at the dealership I was working for at the time. It was driven primarily by my girlfriend. It was parked in 1999. I wish I had kept it inside somewhere all these years but unfortunately I did not. This Camaro needs a FULL RESTORATION. What is going for it even thought it is probably the least popular of the camaro bodies enough time has passed that even these are being restored. I saw one the other day fully restored with a vinyl top (gag). Over the ten year period it was driven this car was kept basically stock so as to be dependable and decent on gas. I retained the stock intake with the factory quadrajet and egr valve for exhaust temperature cooling. The block is bored .030 over and the crank is 010 and .010. These were the specifications when I went through the engine with new rings, rod and main bearings oil pump and timing chain. The cam has a basically smooth idle and has 280 stamped on the end which I assume is the duration. The pistons are flat top. The heads are 041 castings. I always ran premium gas mixed with instead o lead gold as the compression liked the octane. This car ran strong with lots of low end torque with 18 to 19 mpg on the highway which I attributed to the compression. I retained the factory air conditioning and remember replacing the compressor once. The transmission had a shift kit already in it but became slow shifting from drive to reverse so I pulled it and replaced the clutches and steels and all the seals. Over the years it developed a slow leak from the front pump outer seal which was very slow but was there. I was going to restore this car but have decided to sell it as is but running. The engine has not been cranked in over ten years so I decided to look at the heads and bores to make sure everything is ok and to also prove through pictures how good a shape the engine is in. All the pictures were taken after the teardown and nothing was cleaned. I reassembled it with new head gaskets, a used Holly Street Dominator, a used Holly 750 with vacuum secondaries, new sparkplugs, a new Chinese distributor and a new air cleaner assembly. I always kept clean oil in the engine and fresh antifreeze. I flushed the gas tank and will be cranking the engine tonight or tomorrow morning. As part of the deal I am including extras besides what I have already put on the engine. I don't know which way the buyer is going to go but the factory shifter still works but I am including an aftermarket performance shifter, a chrome deep pan for the transmission and an overhaul kit. I was going to freshen up the transmission and would advise new bushings also. I have other parts but have got to hunt them up. Possibly a limited slip diff and other stuff.I thought this was an RS car but can't remember. It came factory with 200 year anniversary medallion on the steering wheel. It had (and I lost it) a factory console between the back seats, a 350 four barrel and front and rear sway bars. The tires are bad but I am including 2 good 245 60 14 tires. That will make it roll as 2 of the tires will hold air.The left front dish slot wheel is not part of the deal. It will have the four centerlines on it The pics of the engine include a poor man's valve check, that's naptha in the combustion chambers which sat overnite and didn't leak. One head go no go .002, the other head and block decks wouldn't go no go .002 Once again this Camaro needs a FULL RESTORATION. I have a lot of people looking at it locally that understand this and are waiting to here it run. I will include a video of it running and the engine oil pressure. I am not crazy about someone buying this car nationally because when you buy IT IS YOURS. I am hoping a builder and or bodyman buys this car and have 2 looking at it locally.Because it was sitting in front of my shop people ask regular if its for sale. I wil add more info but wanted to get it listed. Thank you for looking!
