California Dreamin'...On Such a British Day 1969 MGB Roadster O ffered For Sale is a 1969 MGB Convertible. Automotive enthusiasts have considered early "chrome bumper" MGBs as one of the most affordable classic sports cars for some time. Collectors appreciate the cars’ vintage appeal and quintessential British charm. These "Bs" share the same traits of their predecessors: top-down fun, raspy little engines, full gauge instrumentation, and simplicity. Not long ago, all MGBs took a back seat to the "A" and "T" series cars. Nowadays, "Bs" from the 1960s are fetching great interest and offer solid investment potential. A car of this status can only appreciate in value as the years go on. This classic MGB convertible is a very nice example. Overall, it’s quite clean, not necessarily to showcar standards, but as a hobby or fun weekend toy. It’s a very nice driver, both mechanically and cosmetically. The unique, One-of-a-Kind paint scheme is truly an eye-catcher, and surprisingly, suits the little guy quite well. It gets more looks than usual, and you'll be grinning all over. Mechanically, this B is quite dependable. It starts instantly, offers good performance, and ticks all the right boxes for why you love British cars. Please read on to find out more about this special offering. MGBs have always had a cult following, epitomizing the sports car formula of top-down motoring, minimal accessory gimmicks, and plenty of charm. You may have always admired these sporty convertibles, or maybe even owned one years ago, but suppose you wanted to purchase one of these appreciating classics now? Unfortunately, over the decades many MGBs have fallen prey to neglect, rust, accidents, or unknowing owners who drove them into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential MG tradition - sporty and thoroughly British. One attribute of a 1960s MG, compared to the more common '70s era Bs, is that the design is more pure and simple. Chrome bumpers and metal grill are much more appealing than the black, rubber "Zorro" masks affixed to later models. The overall stance of these early cars was lower and they handled better too. This MGB features the accessories a sports car enthusiast hopes for on his (or her) British roadster. This one has real knock-off wire wheels, a removable soft top that folds and can be stored in the trunk, and this rare, painted to match, fiberglass hardtop. It looks way cool on the MG. It's almost like owning two different cars. The hard top fits snug and actually makes the cockpit quite cozy. When the weather is unfavorable, I enjoy having it on instead of the soft top. It installs in a matter of minutes (literally). I like the way the top makes the MG look like a little race car, with the stripe and rounded, dome-like design. The MG’s sporty, yet traditional interior layout features chrome gauges and a couple of toggle switches. The factory banjo steering wheel is in excellent and completes the package. Dash has a couple of cracks in the center, typical to a convertible, but everything else is crisp and clean. All the SMITHS gauges work: speedometer, odometer, tachometer, etc. Lights, signals, and other components are in fine operating condition, too. In fact, the electricals on this MG are of the best I've had the pleasure of owning. Everything is well sorted. Heck, even the horn works! ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The overall condition of the interior is very nice. Everything was probably refurbished not too long ago. Seats are comfortable and clean, with only a couple minor flaws. Carpeting is thick and not faded; this includes the package area behind the seats as well. Door panels are excellent. Windows roll up & down fine, and the windshield has no flaws. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The MG's "wine" exterior finish with contrasting stripes is quite stunning and definitely looks the part on this vintage little British roadster. Obviously, this is not the factory color combo, as I believe the original color was primrose yellow. The paint is not brand new, mind you, but the car had been stored indoors and it does shine nicely and it looks clean. This was one enthusiast's pride & joy and the condition of it shows. Of course there are a few chips here and there, and some minor flaws. The hood has a small impression in the center near the front (little area above "MG" badge), perhaps from someone forcefully closing the bonnet. Left rear qtr panel has a little paint crazing. There's a 2 inch scratch on the passenger rear qtr panel. Hard top has a a few little stress cracks in paint, probably from lifting and tilting the fiberglass unit. To me, these are to be expected, since this is a driver. Take a look, the body is straight, with no visible signs of dents, rust or corrosion. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture .......... .......... **Chrome bumpers are the only way to go on an MGB. These are new - front & rear. New front lenses, too ** Painted wire wheels with new mouse ear knock-offs look very sporty. All tires are new. Soft top with traditional British three window design is in great condition. Plastic window has some stains, but the "glass" is clear and supple, not sun-baked or cracked. Top itself snaps into place and is of the original pattern. There are no rips or tears to report. Trunk is plain and simple, containing spare wire wheel and brand new tire. Original jack is also intact. Bottom is solid, with no rust or corrosion, so that's an added bonus. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Upon opening the front bonnet, you’ll find a very clean example of the tried and true "B" series 1800 MG motor. This particular engine is healthy, it runs great, and it's very reliable. This will be demonstrated in a short YouTube video below. The MG doesn't overheat, and contrary to typical British motoring legend, has never left me stranded, anywhere. That's impressive, indeed! .......kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk..... Turn the key, and the raspy little motor instantly comes to life. Oil pressure is high (60+ psi), and the operating temperature always reads below half - where it should be. There's a new single Weber carb installed. It offers a wide range of power and is easier to maintain than dual SUs. Looks like this MGB is equipped with headers as well. This car is very fun to drive; no doubt about it. The transmission is better than you can image. Shifting is easy and precise, with no excuses. That familiar sound of the engine as you go through the gears will instantly get you hooked. Take a Test Drive! Click on Video Clip Above Driving a British roadster makes you feel like a kid in a candy store...excited and full of energy. The experience is pure fun - both for driver and passenger. This car instantly transfers you to another era when things were simple and taking an afternoon drive was pleasurable and something you looked forward to. The raspy roar of the exhaust....the allure of a sporty European design...the cache of a vintage British motorcar....all these tickle the senses and add to the pride of MGB ownership. ............ The MGB offered here presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles. This MG is not a perfect show car, but it is probably the only one with this this color combination and matching hardtop. It'll make a great weekend driver for someone who’s always wanted a British roadster, or sold theirs years ago and has regretted it ever since. In any case, now’s the opportunity to make that purchase of a collectible "fun vehicle" you might have been putting off year after year. Don't settle for less and purchase a non-running, fixer-upper you think can be restored on weekends. It won't work. It'll just end up being a project that sits in the driveway for years! You won't have that problem with this MG. This one has "fun-factor" written all over it, plus it's a turnkey car you can take out and start enjoying the minute it arrives in your driveway.
