Vehicle Detail
For Sale: This 1983 Porsche 911SC has been in my garage since 1987. It was purchased by my father in '87 and I bought it from him in '98, I have all the maintenance records since '87. This is essentially a second-owner vehicle. Don't let the mileage scare you off. This vehicle was driven regularly, not parked like so many of this vintage that you'll see. Most of the mileage was put on Texas highways. It turned 200,000 in 2001, so in the last 11 years we've only put on another 28k miles. It has a lot of miles left in it. The original 3.0L engine was rebuilt by ProTechnik Racing in Houston, TX at 167k miles. The euro Mahle piston/cylinders were installed which raised the compression and increased power from the stock 183 to about 210 (per euro spec). The 5 speed transmission was rebuilt in 2005 by German Motorcraft in Colorado Springs, CO. New synchros and 1st/2nd/5th gears were installed. This car is a strong runner which consistently starts on the first turn when cold. It handles great with tight steering and suspension. I drove it in a Porsche Club of America Driver's Education track event at Gateway International just two years ago. When driven to its capability, it can still keep up with new Porsches and BMWs. With some suspension modifications it could make a great track car. It only weighs 2700 lbs without the spare tire. The mostly original paint is in excellent condition. The unusual light bronze/gold color (hellbronze metallic) looks great without attracting unwanted attention. Prior to having my priorities rearranged by family life, this vehicle was washed weekly and Zymol'd monthly. It was babied and loved. I just don't have time to enjoy it or take care of it the way I used to and it should be. After years of debate and walking around it in the garage, I'm ready to pass it on to someone who can. This car is nearly original. It's a good candidate for daily driving, restoration or track usage. Fuel mileage is consistently 20 mpg. If you've done research, you know that the SC version is renowned for its longevity and reliability. Features: Carrera oil-fed chain tensioners update Euro-spec engine with 60k miles on it Rebuilt transmission Carrera/Turbo fan-cooled oil cooler in right wheelwell Elephant Racing finned oil cooling lines Blaupunkt CD player and 10 disc changer Power windows Air conditioning Original FORGED Fuchs 16" aluminum alloy wheels Cibie H4 euro headlamps with Hella relays for High and Low. Relays prevent melting the switch. All VDO gauges rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer and modified for LED lighting. Huge improvement in visibility at night. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires with only 2,500 miles on them Original spare tire, jack, and tool kit in bag Known issues: Any vehicle this old has some issues. A lot of the listings here do not disclose issues that you will have to overcome, leaving the surprises up to you. I have had this car for 25 years, so I have more information to share than most. I will list everything that I am aware of which you may choose to address. None of these issues prevent the car from being driven regularly. Warm restart issue: It starts first crank when cold or hot. When warm, you may have to crank the engine for 10 seconds and float the idle with the throttle for 20-30 seconds. After 30 seconds the car runs perfectly. Since this began six months ago, I have never been unable to start the vehicle and it has never died while running. I believe it needs a new cold start valve, but it may be 1 or two other components in the CIS. Occasional water leak: Though it has spent the vast majority of its life in a garage, there have been a couple of times that I've had water in the passenger footwell. The intermittent leak has been very difficult to find, but I've tracked it down to the rear window seal. The front windshield is showing some fogging at the corners, so new seals and glass would be a good project if you're going to park the vehicle outside for extended periods. I've purchased new front and rear window seals, along with a new perforated headliner from Classic 9's, included in the sale. Intermittent heater blower fan motor: The heater boxes work well. Ducts and hoses in the engine bay have been replaced. The blower fan motor works sometimes. The heater functions with engine draft, but for winter driving replacing the blower fan would improve things considerably. Rear window defroster: The rear window defrosts very weakly. I've checked power and relays. I believe the water leak has corroded the connections to the rear glass. A good cleaning while replacing the seals should resolve the problem. Slow battery drain: Due to infrequent usage, I have kept the car on a battery tender for the last 5 years. If left parked for several weeks the battery will run down. A/C: All 911s from this vintage contain about 40' of non-barrier refrigerant hose. The A/C works well when charged, but it will only hold a charge for about a month. Replacing the hoses should resolve the problem. The system has the newer, more efficient compressor design and added under-dash vent for better cooling. Oil leaks: The rear crankshaft seal has a small leak. The front transmission seal at the shift linkage also has a small leak. Just a couple drops after driving, but enough to put a tray under it. Rust spots: There are a couple places that have a minor surface rust, as shown in pictures. A body shop would have no problem touching up all of these areas. The only non-cosmetic rust is under the front of the battery in the trunk. That panel could use some repair work, but is still structurally sound. Passenger side rocker cover: The pictures show that the metal cover and trim strip are missing. I removed this panel to install the oil lines. I will reinstall both prior to sale. Sales Information: I've attempted to provide as much information as possible. I believe you could drive it home as-is (even cross-country), however, this vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty express or implied. I will assist with making transportation arrangements or having a vehicle inspection performed (at your cost). Buyers are welcome to inspect the vehicle prior to the end of the auction. Please contact me with any questions. I'll give you as much information as I can. Purchaser will be required to sign a (Missouri Bill of Sale) prior to delivery. Purchaser must provide a non-refundable $500 deposit within 72 hours of auction close via PayPal. The balance must be delivered by certified funds within one week.On Oct-25-12 at 17:10:59 PDT, seller added the following information: ********************************************** Edit (10/25/2012): Upon pulling actual receipts today, I've revised the actual mileage at which the engine and transmission rebuilds were performed. The original 3.0L engine was rebuilt by ProTechnik Racing in Houston, TX at 159k miles. The 5 speed transmission was rebuilt in 2006 at 211,484 miles by German Motorcraft in Colorado Springs, CO. New synchros and 1st/4th/5th gears were installed. I also forgot to include a couple of features: - Rennline aluminum floor boards - Weltmeister shock tower brace
