MORE PICTURES AT: https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#ABJtdOXm7Avu So his name is Wally. I feel a certain level of guilt writing this ad, like someone who is tasked with writing their own healthy happy grandfathers obituary decades before he'll go. I'm not selling him off; I'm accepting applications for adoption (as well as his rightful adoption fee of course). I really will need to know this bus will be going to a loving home. Now, as for his characteristics... Wally is currently 40 years young, born in Germany in 1972. There he was first bought by one of his only two other owners, a man stationed there in the military until the late 70's. The bus was then brought over to the US and subsequently garaged in NH in '84 until some 18 years later. The original owner had passed away and a friend of his son became Wally's new care-taker. The bus was then brought back to life and lovingly used as it was meant to be on and off for the next 8 years (including as primary shelter for some time behind a NH restaurant so I’m told) leading to the moment we met. I bought the bus after owning a '58 bus that I had sold needing to relive that experience and share it with my family. This bus has never let me down. I have owned the bus for over 3 years now and truly did not think I would be selling it so soon, if at all. I am currently looking to buy a particular home and so therefore I am forced with this decision. Just this last year myself, my wife, and our two kids 3 and 6, have traveled the entire North East logging over 1900 miles with Wally and spent more than 6 consecutive days in the bus without seeking modern amenities. It has been an incredible experience that we'll never forget. Not a single time did the bus let us down. The entire trip was filled with peace signs, honks, stories of others travels, and opportunities you would never have in any other car, and we met incredible people wherever we went. So, that’s Wally's abbreviated story so far, now for the specifics: It is in fact a matching numbers 1972 Westfalia Campmobile. It is largely original to the very items it was born with and any and all replacements were made with correct items. (I.e. a few cabinet handles, some trim, stickers, glass.) I have the original sales brochure for this model and it is to a T, identical to what’s shown. This makes for awesome conversation alone. The motor is a 1700 air-cooled single carbed motor and it runs great. The bus is parked in the same spot all year when we're not out using it and evidence of a drip or two has only been found a couple times all summer, as expected. Otherwise it does not lose oil over 1500 miles which is how often I do changes and set valves. All of the push rod tubes and seals were done this summer, along with the obvious maintenance items. The interior is in awesome shape all the way through. There is a small tear in the z-bed vinyl from the seat belt (Has seat belts all around, VW seat belts no less!) which can really only be seen when looking for it. All of the veneer woodwork is perfect, and the trimming is brilliant and not curled up like most you’ll see. The fridge is perfect, includes the shelves and ice tray/drain. The sink is perfect and includes the strainer. The water tank is clean and empty. The faucet pump will need a new gasket but all parts are there. We never used the sink itself with the water but nothing is missing to use it if you wish. The only unoriginal interior items are the carpet which is fit perfectly, a portable potty under the jump seat! (1900 miles with kids! Used once, which and emphasis on one) and also the CD player in the dash. The chosen deck did not require me to cut the dash up to fit it so and original one could be put in its place. All interior paint is factory applied original and in awesome shape. Front seat upholstery is newer, correct basket weave TMI vinyl. Rubber floor mats are original and are like new. Front child hammock works awesome and is original. Pop top cot in it currently is from a later model, exact same thing but green in color vs. tan. I have the original canvas and frame also but it is ripped down the center. You can easily find someone to trade the two frames and canvas that’s included, for an original one if desired. The one in it would only tip off the over the top VW fanatics as not original, otherwise it looks like it belongs. All curtains are the original curtains fitted with this bus in 72! and are in damn good shape. Original extension cord, lug wrench, front tire mount, fire extinguisher! (I travel with a spare also) and misc. other minor parts are included also. Pop top canvas is original also though is patched and should be repaired/replaced. The screens are intact and it is very usable, though given the condition of the rest of the bus, this is the final step to really putting this thing over the top. All original wheels and caps. It could use new tires next season before any long trips, but usable as is. Full spare tire and original vinyl tire cover included. Hippyesque and age appropriate vintage stickers applied in various spots. Most of these are printed between 72-78 purchased on eBay to go that extra step =) some are from our travels; all can be removed if desired. TO DO: - I would suggest the new owner tighten the clutch cable and maybe toss in a new one for good measure. After a long season it’s stretched out a bit and needs to be adjusted. It’s very simple to do and common to keep an eye on. - Check brake booster vacuum or troubleshoot issue. Or remove it as some have, I would suggest otherwise. The issue is, that once at a complete stop it can rev ever so slightly when the brake is pushed all the way down. The bus stops fine and the brakes work as they should but the booster to the best of my knowledge is causing it to rev. This might be a no brainer but I have yet dealt with it. Has not gotten worse but has not fixed itself as I was hoping… - Tires. As mentioned above. - Front turn signal seals. The rubber here is old and the replacements are cheap. Expect to get new ones. - Hook up heater tube underneath. I never intended to use heat so the tube is currently removed but I will include it. Easy system to get rigged up. - Brake light bulb. I might have one, I noticed this a couple days ago. Regardless, it’s a standard bulb - See disclaimer below Buy It Now $14,000 I have decided, as I won’t be replacing this bus for some time to add a buy it now incentive. If the bus is purchased for my BIN and payment is made promptly, I will include a ton of fun stuff that I bought for the bus for camping and for shows. These items include 1972 and 1973 Coleman camping stove and gas lanterns in amazing condition, mid 70’s Pyrex coffee carafe with candle warmer still in the box, 14 in 1 vintage mess kit with pots and pans that all fit in one arrangement, 4 tea/coffee cups and plates from the 60s made from melamine in turquoise, VW toys both newer and old, a few blankeks, some bongos, various vintage books related to VW’s, camping, or outdoors, an original sales brochure for this bus printed in 1972, and a bunch of other super cool small items that complement the whole experience. I’ll also include my ‘road box’ with a bunch of tools and parts that you should have on you at all times when driving these long trips as well as a portable battery charger for the time you leave the dome light on. All these items go that extra step when showing it off or being nostalgic. You’ll be able to get in this bus and head wherever you want with everything you need to camp exactly as they did in the 70’s. Basically anything I traveled with when using or showing the bus through out the North East. Please be sure to give this lengthy ad a read before hitting me with questions as I would hope I have answered most of them here in. If there is something I have missed however, I would love to provide you any more details you’d like and welcome anyone to come take it for a drive or check it out in person. The bus is titled, registered, insured, and owned by me here in MA. Shipping is no problem and I can help coordinate this with you if you are not local. Anyone with poor eBay history, please contact me prior as I will delete your bid otherwise to avoid time wasters and otherwise jerks. Disclaimer: If this is your first classic car, let me offer a reality check. These cars, buses, trucks, vintage military hovermobiles, whatever, they require a different kind of care than your '04 Toyota. Please make yourself familiar and prepare to give this bus the love and attention, and quite often the patience it deserves. There are an amazing amount of resources out there to keep these cars healthy and the people who love them on the road so do your research prior to bidding if this is an off the cuff decision. With all that said, I have owned many air-cooled vw's and Wally has been by far the most reliable. And amongst the others, with a book, (VW Bible - John Muir, BIN Included) a lunch box of select tools, and a good attitude, you should be able to fix just about anything in any situation. For this reason, the bus is being sold with no further implications or warranties. I have done a thorough job at describing this bus to the best of my knowledge and welcome any and all questions or visits for a look prior to bidding. Payment should be made in full within 7 days and arrangments to remove the bus within that also. If shipping requires some flex on pick-up, I plan to be reasonable of course, as long as there is a plan in place. Best of luck. I had assumed as I used to own a '66 L87 Bug. Very close color. Anyway, this can be seen on the mcode in the pictures. Don't know how I missed it!! A sharp bidder brought it to my attention, thanks again!
