The heart of the system is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine coupled with an electric motor that assists the gasoline engine under acceleration. The package features an idle-stop feature, which shuts off the engine when the driver places the shift lever in neutral and releases the clutch pedal. The Insight requires no external power supply to recharge the 144-volt nickel metal hydride batteries. Regenerative braking via the ABS-assisted disc/drum brakes provides juice to the system. With a full charge and the electric motor providing full assist, the Insight accelerates swiftly, but passing power is lacking. The Insight's interior is just as futuristic as the exterior, with a sweeping dash and a high-tech LCD analog/digital instrument display. Divided into three sections, the cluster displays engine rpm, coolant temperature and the engine's idiot lights on the left bank; a large digital speedometer, odometer, lifetime fuel economy bar graph and instant fuel economy in the middle; and fuel level, battery level indicator and the electric motor charge and assist indicator on the right bank. Dual high-back bucket seats feature good lateral and lumbar support. Controls for power windows, mirrors, AM/FM cassette stereo, ventilation and available climate controls are all within easy reach, but two large adults might find themselves knocking elbows in the tight cockpit. Built fully equipped (the only option is an automatic air conditioning system) with power windows, door locks, exterior mirrors, an AM/FM cassette stereo, dual airbags, rear window defroster and a whole lot more, the Insight is an incredible value -- for a hybrid vehicle. It's spent its entire life right here in AZ and as such it's never been exposed to snow which means the car has no rust and doesn't show any indication of developing rust in the future! The interior is very clean no rips or tears in the seat. Carpet is clean, non-smoking car. It really has been well cared for! The a/c is very cold and the heat is just as hot. All the power windows, power locks, seats, and mirrors work great! No warning lights remain illuminated on the dash after the vehicle is started, just as it should be! The factory stereo was replaced with a Pioneer CD player. None of the speakers are blown! The exterior of the car is in good shape showing only minimal wear. A few rock chips on the front bumpers and down low from interstate driving, there are a few light scratches from other car doors in the parking. The gray paint just shines. The alloy wheels are beautiful and are matched to a good set of tires. So how does it drive? You'll be very pleased with how well this car has been kept. Just as you'd expect with this kind of low mileage! You'll really impressed with how well cared for this car! The suspension is tight, the car hugs the turns and absorbs the bumps beautifully. The brakes stop the car evenly and effectively just as they should. The car's Gasoline-Electric Hybrid engine still runs great. It has great pickup and great acceleration at both low and highway speeds. The highly desired continuously variable transmission (CVT) (automatic transmission) works just as its supposed to! All the lights work great. The 144-volt nickel metal hydride batteries were replaced in 2008, plus I have the paperwork. I also have of the other repair paperwork for the car as well.
