Vehicle Detail
I've owned this car since early 2002. It's a fun car with good handling. My family has grown and this no longer suits my needs. When I encountered some mechanical problems with it, I decided to sell. So, here we go: Condition and history: It is currently in driveable condition, but is running the following check engine light codes: P0340, P0306, P0638. It will drive, but requires about a 5 minute warm-up to prevent engine de-rating or touchy throttle actuation. I am told by my mechanic that this is because the engine has probably slipped a tooth on the timing chain, and I've gotten a code at one time indicating a timing issue, but only once. It also needs a new intake valve, according to the same mechanic. I can provide a copy of the mechanic's bill showing this analysis. So, if you plan to buy it--I would recommend driving it only locally or not at all until the proper repairs can be made. My wife struck a deer with this car in 2003. Damage was not terrible, but the hood and the driver's side front quarter panel were re-worked professionally. The color match is great, and I personally can't tell where the damage was. This is the only accident with this vehicle. The only visible rust is on the passenger side front wheel well area. The mark near this area is either wax or road tar--but I've got kids--and no time to clean it more. It needs a new map light switch (plastic is broken and won't engage positively). The armrest storage area latch will not stay latched and is broken. The body is in nice shape, all electrical accessories work including windows, sunroof, heated seats, radio, etc. It has newer front tires. It includes a full-size alloy rim spare with full-tread tire. Recent work: I had the transmission oil and filter factory servieed at about 108,000 miles (give or take). It has a new fuel filter. It has a new throttle position sensor (gas pedal assembly with sensor, I'll include the old unit in the trunk). I put in new plugs and wires at about 110,000 miles. I have the cosmetic engine cover pieces in the trunk, as I didn't finish the repairs on the car. They will be included in the sale along with a *free* air filter. This is a great car for the do-it-yourselfer or for someone who knows a good VW mechanic. I'm pricing this one to move, with no reserve. Thanks, and good bidding!
