Here is a real classic and attention getter. A 1976 (bi-centennial) year US postal jeep. This jeep has very low original miles and has had lots of attention, care and maintenance completed in less than last 5,000 miles. Body is very straight, clean and no known accidents or any signs of such. Very minimal rust for it's age, being from a very warm and dry climate in the mountains of northeastern Arizona. This AMC Jeep model DJ5D is powered by a 6 cylinder (232ci) engine with an automatic 3 speed A727 transmission. Jeep was purchased by my neighbor over 5 years ago, while he was waiting for position with the local US Postal service and his plans finally changed. This Postal Jeep is a right hand driver. Overall body condition is good with no signs of accidents, original color appears to have been blue and was painted white. Most noticeable signs of rust are on front, between hood and windshield. This jeep has been parked in neighbor's yard for past 5 years and not in use. The jeep has has less than 10k miles of use in past 10 years. I just flushed out the old fuel and added 5 gallons of fresh gas. The jeep started right up with little effort and idles and revs smoothly. Transmission engages easily and all gears seem to work very well. Only two main items of concern are that the Jeep only gets up to a max speed of 40-45mph?? I have very little mechanical knowledge and do not believe this is it's top speed? Not sure if it's a timing issue, weak motor or??Steering seems to have lots of play....but comparing it to my late model daily driver and the windshield has a crack in front of driver's view.I recently acquired this Jeep and do not have any other history or background.
