Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1956 Cadillac Superior Moderne End Loading Funeral Coach When was the last time that you saw a coach from the fifties that was this pristine? A real survivor in every respect, this 1956 Cadillac Superior Moderne End Loading Funeral Coach will turn heads wherever you go! Only 770 Superior Cadillacs were made and you will be hard pressed to find one in this condition! You could, quite literally, drive this hearse from coast to coast. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in 2005 and have less than 5000 miles on them. In fact, just about everything under the hood was replaced or rebuilt and I have all the paperwork documenting this all the way back to 2004. I just did a 300 mile road trip and it sailed right along at 60 mph with no problems whatsoever. The history on this coach is fantastic. It saw funeral service in Colorado from 1956 to about 1965 when the rock band The Monocles bought and toured with it for about ten years or so. It then went into the hands of a private collector for the next three decades where it was garaged, but driven very little. It then went to the band The Mighty Kegsman and then to The Ghastly Ones in 2005, at which point all the real restoration work began under the hood. It drives and shifts like a dream! Recent work has seen a radiator flush, tune-up, new fuel filter and a new electric fuel pump back at the gas tank. I just wanted to give it the once-over and make sure it was running as smoothly as I could get it and without fail, it has. The engine runs strong and the tranny shifts very smooth, with the exception of when it’s cold, the tranny takes a moment to shift from first to second gear. Letting the coach simply warm up usually takes care of the problem. The radial tires have plenty of tread and all fluids are up to date. The brakes stop the coach just fine. Amazingly, it gets terrific gas mileage! I can usually get about 250 miles out of a full tank, which holds 20 gallons. With gas prices where they are these days, that will be a big help! While driving on the highway is just fine, I’ve noticed that in a lot of stop and go traffic the radiator tends to want to heat up a little bit, but a flip of the switch under the dash turns on the aftermarket fans in front of the radiator and that cools it down fast. All of the electric works on the dash, signals, brake and backup lights and overhead lights in the cab and the slumber area. It has the original radio which seems to pick up a few stations. There is no antenna. The bulb or fuse for the Unity apple spotlight will need to be replaced, but the controls are completely functional. All the glass is good and the windshield and commercial wraparound rear glass is in excellent shape, as is all the flat glass. There is a tiny crack in the lower right corner of the rear dividing glass. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Interior fabric is all original and in great shape with the occasional tiny tear here and there, but nothing that makes the coach unpresentable. The bench seat was completely reupholstered to the original two-tone specs and I’ll include the old material as well. The interior in the slumber area is in great shape as well, although there seems to be water marks on the rear door. All the original curtains are there and are immaculate. All the slumber area hardware is pristine and works flawlessly. There doesn’t appear to be any rust at all, except for a small hole about the size of a dime directly in front of the left fender skirt. I’m also including an extra set of commercial chassis fender skirts as well, but they don’t have the chrome trim. The body and paint could use a visit to your body man. The original black lacquer paint presents extremely well and could easily go into funeral service, but for you perfectionists out there, you would want to address this. As it stands now, it’s an incredibly clean driver as is evidenced by the pictures. Chrome is in good shape, although if you really wanted to you could get them rechromed if you wanted this ’56 to go to Pebble Beach. Otherwise I think the chrome is just fine and it shines up beautifully. All the Superior logos are in good shape, too. The hubcaps shine beautifully and the medallions are all original. I’m also including a hood insulation pad (brand new), a brand new spare tire with cover, car cover (a bit worn), shop manual, owners manual and the voluminous paperwork that I have for this magnificent old coach. So, if you want an incredibly clean driver and a vintage survivor, then this coach is for you. If you’re looking for a hearse to slam and shave and put stupid rims on, then go away. This great old coach is for the right person who wants to preserve and celebrate it like it deserves. The reserve is set very reasonably, so please don’t ask me what it is. If you like the coach, then bid and give it the new home that it deserves. Don’t let this one get away! USA bidders only. Payment in full must be received within 48 hours of auction end in the form of cash or cashiers check from your bank (it must clear before any title is transferred).
