Vehicle Detail

1984 Porsche 928S. I will be doing the TB/WP service in the next few days while this car is up for auction. The water pump started leaking and the service is due. I am selling it as I already own a few 928s and have limited time to maintain and enjoy this car. Though, I have enjoyed driving it in the short time I have owned it. The car has many bonuses. It's a great color combo and it has a 5 speed transmission. It is a very decent example and would make a great candidate as a daily driver. It does not need much work and runs and drives very well. Also, it has excellent tires. It will need a little work, in my opinion, to be that dependable daily driver. There is some play in the steering and I have observed that the left inner/outer tie rod need to be replaced soon. Also, the clutch hydraulics need to be serviced or replaced. The clutch on this car has quite a complicated twin-disc setup which features an intermediate plate. Sometimes it is recommended to check this plate's adjustment and adjust as necessary if you are experiencing clutch drag. I have adjusted the plate and have determined that the old hydraulics probably need to be refreshed to be made right, however, it does shift pretty good now. On occasion, it will grind going into second gear. Also, if started in neutral, it might be a fight getting into first or reverse. For whatever reason, the clutch gets smoother after driving and shifting issues go away after a few minutes driving. There is a brake pad sensor warning light on. I have inspected the brakes and determined that the pads are fine. I assume someone did not replace the sensors when they last replaced the pads. It's worth noting that the brakes are sometimes noisy when the car is initially driven. Similar brake noise to what you commonly might hear from new cars with cheap pads on them. The interior is decent. The dash is in excellent shape with no cracks or damage. The pod has a cover on it but it is cracked in a many places. The driver seat has some wear but, in my opinion, looks very good for its age. The passenger seat, on the hand, is pretty rough. The car's body is in pretty good shape. There are a few dings on each quarter panel but, other that that, it is very nice and straight. The paint is alright. It has flaws but it is pretty sharp when cleaned up. The windshield is cracked in a couple of places where rock chips had initially impacted it. Odometer shows 76K miles but it is not working; a common 928 problem. The plastic gear within the cluster disintegrates after many years. I would guess the car to probably have 100-150K miles realistically. I have described it to the best of my ability. I welcome any questions about it and I believe it will make someone a very good car either as a daily driver or a weekend hobby car.
