Vehicle Detail

For sale is this great 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula project. Just imagine... this was built to look good and cruise in one of the last muscle car bodys still available, when most other makes had long since been fazed out or turned into econo cruisers. When I bought this my plan was to part the car out: there are a considerable amount of parts that do VERY well on ebay bolted to this car. Then I started looking at how solid it was, realized it hasnt been sitting, unused like most project cars. In fact it was still on the road at least since Sept 2011 when it passed VA inspection. Then I found the build sheet under the back seat and noted it is loaded with options. I started to think I wanted to build this car myself and to be honest if it doesnt sell here I still might. The thing that keeps me from doing it is because I dont have Pontiac parts. I am loaded up with Chevy and Mopar engines & parts but I dont have the parts to build this car. Another thing that REALLY attracted me to build this is the fact that I HATE air conditioning cars. I do not like working around the compressors and all the parts that weigh down a muscle car keeping it from going fast. If it came with factory air & needs a power train transplant I simply wont spend money restoring a muscle car. Sure, you can pull all that stuff but its a job and then, when done, you have a car thats not original. So, since this is a factory non-air car it will save you time and money and you will be able to go faster & get the job done quicker. When the windows are down & you're going 70 mph down the interstate who needs air anyway? This was originally a 301 2brl with a 3sp automatic, the previous owner wanted to go faster, pulled the motor and ran out of cash to complete the job. I do not have the original motor & trans and I cannot get it, who would want it? ;) The oyster white interior is also a plus in my book. Once restored to new you cant beat a clean white interior. (the white seat-belts are easily worth over $100 on ebay) The car was once silver but I would have kept it black. It has a few neat options including the deluxe steering wheel, tilt column and 2:41 Positraction (not the best gear for a muscle car but this was originally built to be a comfortable highway driver, good on gas). What can I say? The late 70s were a strange time. When high performance took a back seat to comfort, reliability & frugality. Still, you will get a good looking, solid chassis that is begging for a big block. Another great thing is the brakes still work! It hasnt been sitting so long that all that has frozen up. It has good pads, lines and has discs on the front. It still has a good gas tank, not gunked up with slime from sitting for decades. The interior, while in need of a complete restoration isnt musty and rotten from sitting: the drivers seat isnt completely worn out, the seat tracts (an easy $100 on ebay for the pair by the way) are still functioning, not cracked and broken. The gauge cluster is clean as is the console and door panels. There is no rot in the floor pans or trunk pans. Frame is all solid, body is pretty straight with no rust under the trunk lid or hood. The passenger side fender is in the roughest shape but even it is serviceable, tho its not hard to find a replacement for low bucks if you wish. The exaust is in good condition and still mostly there. The glass is all good, the door glass rolls up and down with no issues. The door hinges have no flop. FANTASTIC paperwork, usually these cars have nothing left in that regard. There are several missing trim pieces: what you see missing in the photos, I do not have. What you see is what you get, thats the way I bought it and thats the way you will get it. I have not parted it out at all... YET! ;) Once I saw how solid this was, I didnt want to disturb it. I could have pulled the radiator out and sold it for scrap but its a heavy duty part in great condition and felt it was worth saving to make your job easier getting this project back on the road. Thats what this auction is all about: saving a classic muscle car instead of scraping it. Make a bid, buy a cool project, make it work again. Id be thrilled to see it on the road & glad I helped save it. Just know, that I know I could have made more money by parting it out and since thats what I DO for a living on ebay, for the last 10+ years, it wouldnt have been difficult in the least for me. Bid, buy, own, restore and say THANK YOU for the bargain. Thats all Im hoping for. I do it for the car, for you and MY peace of mind. So I make a few bucks less... it will be worth it to save it. I will be here for you after the auction. If you win you will get my help to get the car moved if you come and pick it up w/a trailer, or if you employ a shipping service: I will do all I can to help you get the car to you. All I ask in return is you pay the $250 deposit as soon as you make the winning bid and make full payment available within 7 days. You will get a CLEAR VA TITLE & BILL OF SALE and all the original paperwork. If you need additional information please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Anyone who wants to see the car in person, just email for my phone number. Auction ends at exactly 9:00 EST Friday, Sept 21st so get your bids in if you want to win! Buying a vehicle online can be difficult when you dont know how to get it home or dont have the time to do it. I have found a reliable carrier with more than reasonable rates in Carolina Carriers of Mt Airy NC. He has personally moved cars for myself & friends & at prices that make it difficult for you to move them yourself any cheaper. In addition he doesnt charge extra for non-operational vehicles as most carriers do. Here are some rates from cars he has moved back & forth for myself & friends: SC to Salem VA: $250. Salem VA. to Florida: $400. Deep into NY state to Salem: $450. Salem VA to Louisiana: $500. Salem to Ohio: $450. It is a family owned operation and you will talk to his wife Angie when getting quotes & updates You will meet Carl Widener or a related employee when the car is picked up/delivered. DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE MOVER OF YOUR VEHICLE: NO MIDDLEMAN! THE REASON FOR THAT IS WHEN I SELL A CAR ON EBAY I GO BACK TO THE LAST ONE I SOLD AS A TEMPLATE. FOR SOME REASON THE NUMBERS WERE NOT CHANGED: HERE ARE THE NUMBERS OFF THE CAR & TITLE: 2T87Y9N192208
