Vehicle Detail
Up for bidding is this 1976 Honda CB550F Supersport. This bike has gone through a complete rebuild. I picked it up in Chicago IL. I have had it for about a year now and have been working on it for most of that time. I have put on about 25 miles since the rebuild for road testing. It is stored in my shop, but this baby is made to be ridden. Cosmetics -New bar end mirrors -New drag style handlebars -New grips- New throttle sleeve- New throttle and clutch cables - New guage faces (speedo shows just over 25800 original miles) -New speedo and tach cables-New aftermarket cafe style seat foam and cover - Removed the tank decals and replaced with vintage style Honda Wing decals- Repainted tank and rear fender- Cut down front and rear fenders- Removed side covers and relocated battery and wiring under seat- Removed unnecessary tabs and painted frame- New bullet style turn signals (rear signals work as running lights, brake lights and turn signals) -New headlight brackets Electronics -New Trugel Battery- New Dyna coils- New Taylor spark plug wires- New NGK Spark plugs- New OEM points and condensers. New Ricks Regulator/ Rectifier (The old one wasnt bad, just ran a little too hot and I figured I would replace it before any trouble happened). Set timing and points Brakes -Rebuilt Master cylinder- Rebuilt front brake caliper -New rear brake light switch Engine -New OEM rings -Honed cylinders -New OEM timing chain tensioner -New OEM timing chain guide -Relapped valves- New valve seals -Checked camshaft to make sure it was within specs -All new gaskets, o-rings, and seals -Compression readings are good, all within spec- Adjusted valve clearances -New primary and secondary sprockets and chain Intake, Exhaust, and Fuel - Rebuilt carbs with all new OEM gaskets and seals -New OEM floats -Rejetted carbs -K&N pod filters -Aftermarket shorty drag pipes -New fuel filter- Cleaned inside of fuel tank -Syncronized carbs A couple of other things about the bike you should know: When using the electric start you must pull in the clutch regardless of whether or not it is in neutral. The neutral switch is not working properly so the dummy light doesn't come on either, but it works like any other bike transmission and neutral is easy to find. It is an old bike and cold blooded, you should let it warm up for at least a few minutes before taking off or running it too hard. To start you should use the choke, after a couple of minutes you may turn off the choke and then adjust the idle speed with the idle speed screw behind the carbs. The top end hasnt been broken in yet, so just like a new one you should take it easy for the first 500 miles or so, and change the oil at that 500 mile mark as wel The carbs are jetted to run at the current altitude (6500 ft) so if you are going to be below 5000 ft you should rejet them. I will include some extra primary and secondary jets so you can adjust those according to your altitude. This is not a show bike, this was built to ride and enjoy (and sometimes work on)! The shop manual and any other spare parts will be included. I do have the title. Once payment is completed I will send the signed title by certified mail. The bike sounds and rides great and I wish I could keep it to enjoy for myself, but I have to make room for the next project. There are no returns, but I have tried to include as many pictures as I could so you can clearly see the bike. Here is a short youtube video of the bike, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sRYZq735j8 the quality isn't superb but you will get the idea. I do have this bike for sale locally and reserve the right to end this auction early. Thank you for looking and happy bidding! On Sep-18-12 at 21:13:01 PDT, seller added the following information: -Spare parts included are, original front turn signals, original rear shocks, new spare throttle cable, shop manual, and an extra set of standard piston rings On Sep-19-12 at 10:09:03 PDT, seller added the following information: - I just lowered the reserve in hopes of not having to relist this item. I have had a couple questions about the quality of this bike. In response, the rebuild was a thorough one. It rides and idles well. It is however almost 40 years old, the wheels are the original ones and some parts such as the points cover do show the patina of its age. Being an old inline 4, it is cold blooded and begs to be ridden or at least started regularly. Just like any machine, not using it is the worst thing you can do to it. As I said in the original description, this is not a showroom bike, it was built to be ridden and enjoyed. As you can see from the pictures, it has its minor imperfections, but overall it looks and runs great!
