Radically Refurbished 1963 Porsche 356B Outlaw Cou Radically Refurbished 1963 Porsche 356B Outlaw Cou Blue / Red31,294 Miles / VIN: 00000000000211326 Contact Mark Counts at Bavarian Motors at 713-320-3059 / 281-288-5782 Spring, TX 77388 View This Seller's Other Auctions Radically Refurbished 1963 Porsche 356B Outlaw Cou Blue Exterior / Red Interior VIN: 00000000000211326 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe, 4 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 211326 Vehicle Description In late January of this year, we obtained this car from a local collector who had placed it in dry storage in 1994. The prior owner told us that the car was a Karmann bodied coupe which was originally Oslo Blue with a Red Leatherette interior and we obtained a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity that confirmed the colors. The prior owner also told us that the engine number did not match the Certificate of Authenticity and we subsequently determined that the engine was from a 1960 Porsche 356 (a base 1.6 litre). At the time we bought the car, all the major systems were operational, i.e., it was running, driving and braking and it seemed to be a rough but fairly complete project. Most imortantly, the car was not rust eaten and did not appear to need any form of major rust restoration. At the time of its acquisition, we knew that the car had some body filler on it but, as the car was driveable and fairly complete, we determined that it was worth saving. We began the cars refurbishment by stripping the car down to a rolling shell and then had the shell media blasted back to raw metal. During this process, we removed all the bondo that had been placed on the car over its 49 year life (there was a whole lot of bondo on this car!). When all the paint and filler were gone, we saw an amazing patchwork of welded metal that, to say the least, suprised us. In fact, our first thoughts were "Now why did they want to go and do that for?" However, as we continued to stare at the crazy quilt of metal work confronting us, we began to see that it possessed an inherent and eclectic beauty that deserved to be preserved. Thus, we made an intentional decision to exercise as much restraint as possible and, rather than replacing the body panels or covering up the existing ones with more filler, decided to showcase this cars bizarre beauty by making an Outlaw coupe. Importantly, after stripping the car of all paint and all filler, we located the presence of rust in only one area - the battery tray. We repaired that area with a 12 inch square patch and then began our refurbishment in earnest. The cars bumper slots were deleted by welding metal on the back side and then using all metal to smooth the exterior. The car was then coated in an epoxy primer (which is waterproof) and the floor pan was coated in a modern protective coating (essentially bed liner). Both the primer and the undercoating were applied with the intent to prevent any rust from forming on the car and, after several months, both seemed to have worked excellently as the car has no known rust on its chassis, suspension or body shell. Once this was done, we replaced the following components with new ones: Falken185/65/R215s tires on all four corners; Plastic Liner from Stoddards in the boot; Front and Rear Window Seals; Quarter Window Seals; Optima 6 Volt Battery; Bonded Logic Soundproofing in the floor pan; Acme Headliner; Windshield Wiper Blades; Front Headlamp Buckets & Lights; Front Turn Signals; Rear Turn Signals; Front Headlamp Stone Guards; Hood Straps; Spare Tire Strap; Dual Stage Master Cylinder; "Blue" Brake Lines; Fuel Lines; Rear Axle Boots; Gas Tank Sending Unit; Shock Absorbers (all wheels); Bosche Spark Plugs; Door Seals; Step Plates; Step Plate Seals; Furry Window Strips & Clips; Furry Window Chanels; Washer Jets; Porsche Emplem Crest on Hood Ornament; Porsche Emblem on Rear; Antenna; Boot Seal; Rear Decklid Stops; Door Handle Seals; Door Seals; Gas Flap; Air Filters Pegasus Decals; and Complete Engine Compartment Soundproofing. The majority of these new parts were ordered from Stoddards and/or the Sierra Madre Collection and all are quality components. In addition to these wholesale replacements, we refurbished the following items: Gas Tank (opened, sandblasted and professionaly coated with rustproofer); Window Chrome Replated (Front and Rear Windows); Carbs Professionally Rebuilt; 6V Generator Professionally Rebuilt; All Wheel Cylinders Professionally Rebuilt; Hood Ornament Chrome Replated (new emblem also installed); All engine tin sandblasted and professionally painted; Wide 5 rims professionally striped and painted; Brake Dums professionally painted. Next, we did an upper end reseal on the car, replaced all the fresh engine tin, put on a new, light weight crank pulley and belt, and returned the engine to its "stock" appearance by applying period correct decals. We started to massage the suspension and using quality components dropped the car approximately 2 inches in the rear and almost 4 inches in the front. After all the mechanicals were sorted, we completed the reassembly of the interior by adding a Crowe 4 point harness on both driver and passenger sides, slid on a slick eight ball shifter, smacked the car on the butt and took it on a 100 mile test drive. On our trip, everything worked perfectly and we currently believe that we have created a weirdly beautiful (if not quite perfect) Monster Outlaw! We know that this car is radically different from our normal inventory and hope you understand that we wanted it that way because this car was was intended for someone who knows and understands that, sometimes it is our imperfections that make us beautiful. Thank you for looking at our Outlaw Coupe and, if you are interested in obtaining this magnificient survivor then then please contact Mark at 713-320-3059.
