Vehicle Detail

More Pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/c5VGH I bought this car from another MB diesel enthusiast I know in 2010. He had purchased it in North Carolina back in 2002, and had many issues with the early style cylinder head. In 2010 the head blew yet again, and coolant in the cylinders cracked the block as well. At that point I purchased the car from him and installed a replacement engine with the newer style head (#22). This engine had 215k on it. A few months into owning it I noticed an occasional flare from the transmission, and was not able to adjust it away. So I purchased an MB remanufactured transmission, used with unknown mileage, and installed it, clearing up that problem. The transmission vacuum adjustment is still the way I had set it with the old weak transmission, meaning stiffer shifts. I drove it daily for brief periods, but mainly use it for long trips now. I drove it daily for a few months in the winter, and noticed glow plug issues (rough starting). I have since replaced the glow plugs, but the glow light started being intermittent as well. It is summer now so the car easily starts regardless, so it is hard to tell whether the new plugs cleared up the issue. A replacement later-style glow relay (not installed) will be included with the car. There are no engine or transmission oil leaks. However, there is a coolant leak on the passenger side of the engine, from either the heater hose or the lower radiator hose. The air filter heat shield, fan shroud, and windshield washer tank are in the trunk. There is a patch of muffler wrapping on the flexible exhaust manifold joint. It does not make any noise. The entire exhaust manifold needs to be removed to replace this flexible section. The front brakes pulse slightly, indicating that the rotors are warped. There is plenty of pad left, but when the time comes to change them I would recommend getting new rotors as well. There are new rotors and pads on the rear, however when changing them I found that the parking brake shoes had no pad left. I have disabled the parking brake, intending to install a set of new shoes (which are sitting in the back seat of the car), but never installed them. The tires are Michellins with plenty of tread (75%?), but are pretty old. The rims' clearcoat is pretty faded. I have a set of rims with better clearcoat if you want. The front suspension is in good shape, with no cracked rubber boots or play anywhere. The rear also has no play, but the rear wheel carrier bushings appear original. This means they will start making a loud creaking noise at some point in the future. The rear suspension does not make any noise right now. The cruise control works. So does the antenna, thought the antenna motor sounds a bit loud. There is a touchscreen radio installed. The odo/speedo unit has been replaced since the old odometer stopped. The sunroof works, it could use lubrication though. The sunroof switch seems flakey at times. The power rear headrests do not work. The windows all work. The power front seats both work. The power locks and alarm work. The interior is in good shape. The driver's seat is stuffed with extra foam and feels very comfortable. There is a small quarter-inch tear in the rear seatback, on the driver's side. The shifter wood is cracked. There are no obvious cracks on the dash. The AC blows cold. However sometimes it randomly turns off til you restart the car, indicating that some sensor was triggered. The AC was refilled with r134 several months ago. The fact that it needed refilling indicates a slow leak. I checked it with gauges a month ago and the charge has not leaked out, so I am not sure how long it takes for it leak out. The climate temperature sensor fan squeaks at times, especially in the winter. The car is not rust free. There are no holes, except for the pictured rust patch on the corner of the front passenger door. There is no rust on any external panels. 3 of the jackpoints were cleaned and recoated before rust can progress on them. The front passenger side rocker panel also had rust on it, and was also worked over with an angle grinder and recoated. The paint is original. It is a bit oxidized but does not look bad. There is no peeling anywhere. There is a scratch on the front passenger fender.
