This is a 1983 BMW 528e. It has approximately 130,000 miles on it. I got it from a guy who had it as his 'college' car in the 90's. When the Mass Flow Valve on the fuel injection went south, he [parked it in his garage in ~1999ish and there is sat waiting for me to find. The Good:I have replaced the mass flow valve, the radiator, cleaned the injectors, the gas tank had rust in it so I coated it. It has a new idle control valve, many new fuses and relays. Most of the rubber intake mounts and ducts have been replaced. Also, a new muffler, and straight pipes without a catalytic converter. New front windshield, and new wiper motor. The Body is near perfect, no rust. Power windows and the sunroof works. About 26-28 mpg (average). New water pump, and new timing belt. The manual transmission is smooth as silk. 7 Series Rims (from the mid 80's), and new tires (less than 300 miles on them). The Bad:The last think I need to do on this, is chase down a loose ground in the dash. The entire dash is electrically powered, and sometimes when you start up, some of the gauges do not work. You can slap the dash 'Fonzie Style', and most of the gauges come back up ... Anyway, it doesn't affect the drivability ... I have been commuting 20 miles each way for a couple months and it is a smooth rider. The Odometer reads 129K, but I think that there is about 135K on it. The PO said the electrical issue happened when it was sitting for so long. The dash is cracked due to sun exposure. The Air conditioning fan and motors do work, but it's not cold, I believe it just needs to be recharged. My parents just retired their car to my driveway, so ... I'm getting rid of this one. I had planned to keep this for the long term, but I need more of a family truckster, and not the sexy classic. Oh well.
