QUESTIONS – Call Jim 410 562 8317 ONE OWNER!Manual 5 SpeedSuper Nice Driving Car Good Looking*ComfortableDrives smooth on the highway.Immaculately CleanClassic Dependability NO RESERVE!! You are bidding on reallynice car. ONE OWNER, good looking, nice driving240 Volvo Wagon . Dependable, last forever, manual 5 speed. Owned by a mid-highranking federal official who lived in one of Northern VA’s nicest neighborhoods. He bought it brand new. Very decent car. You could comfortably drivethe car cross country right this minute. Regular timing belt changes over theyears. Good looking, comfortable, road-able. Here’s a complete report. Engine – Nice. The engine is Volvo’s ultra highquality and dependable 2.3 liter 4 cylinder…really the engine standout thatVolvo really burnished their reputation on. Super strong, super dependable, easy to work on, peach of an engine. Tune up done according to source nottoo long ago. In the pictures, youshould be able to see the fresh new visible tune up parts - new wires, new capand rotor etc . Total quiet, smooth and smoke free. Engine underside as clean and dry as abone. Totally leak freeand correct. Should have another 100,000-200,000miles in it EASILY. Engine is strong, and smooth. As you certainly must know, these model engines can easily go well morethan 300K miles and in some cases have gone well more than 500+ K. Exactly what you expect from a well cared for 240 Volvo. Brakes are real good . Strong . Fine . Exhaust- Nearly brand new exhaust from amidships back. (asyou can see in the pictures.) Often 240 wagons need exhaust . This ones goodfor a decade or more. Suspension fine drive-wise. Car sits up nicely. No shakerattle and roll. No vibration on the road, just clear and smooth. None of the of the rear bushing loosenessthat seems to characterize some 240 sedans and wagons. Slight pull to right has developed as that one tire wore more than the other three. Tires- one of the few things that could be replaced. OK – for a few more months- and certainly ready to travel , but new oneswould really be in order very soon. With about $350 set of new “skins” you’ld be sitting on a delightful machine ! Whatever good news - the tire wear thatdoes exist is even, balanced and very uniform – would seem to indicate good underlying mechanicals, suspension-wise. Scene : I was rushingto a Boy Scout meeting just last Wednesday when driving the car I was delighted to see this baby cruisednicely at 70 – 75+ mph, At one point I even pushed it to 80. (again smooth, comfortable. ) Great at high speed, super stable, solid , tracks stabaly in that "arrow line" Volvo way. Good acceleration - Has that extra “ummph “ of get up and go characteristic of 5 speeds. Even for a 4cylinder heavier car. Nice. Just a real nice vehicle, especially out on the highway. It was such a thrill for me personally as an old Volvo lover to drive a well loved , well preserved specimen.I’ve driven the car now about 1,500 miles aver the last few months, took on atrip to PA etc and found it great allthe way around. Transmission and clutch- Shifts easy. Glassy free shift. No grind. No issues. I have no information on the clutch age one way or the other but - its not the tight stiff feel of a new one - if I had to guess its in the 2nd half of its life. Cruising speed highway. The ride -Itcertainly drives nicely cruising . When out on the highway it’s just a delight. The ride is smooth. Whether it’s the long wheel base, or overall suspension… Idon’t know, but its just very nice. Its smooth, steady , and stable in that“Goes down the road like an arrow” “Volvo sort of way.” --------------------------------------------------. The Air Conditioning, is cold and comfortable. It works. Though to be honest, if you know Volvos, I’d couldn’t suggest the AC is Ice Cold Powerful – that’s just not the usual nature of Volvo AC and its not the casewith this one . I’m very picky about AC and will tell you my opinion – The Ac works here and pretty much gets the job done, especially on longer tripson the highway when it has time to really cool down nicely and comfortably ,but it will never be a “blow torch ICE CASCADE “ like some of the new “icecold cabin in 10 seconds” cars. That’s just the truth. Make sense? Interior is very nice as seen in the pictures. Overall beautiful. Carpets , are excellent . Remarkably clean. The upholstery is also really good. (see the photos) . Only a minor hint of color fade. Headliner superb. Glove box latch staysshut . The rear compartments , gas shock struts on the rear tailgate -allexcellent. Delux “Hida-cargo cover” in rear. Also comes with safety “cargostop” fold down mesh gate that protects front occupants from flying cargo in asudden stop. Original equipment Volvo Radio andspeakers that at some point this summer went on the fritz and works onlysporadically . If it was me I’d just replacethe stereo with one of the nice SONY units on sale now at $100. The paint presentsitself well. Impression is nice. Definitely a few visible scratches and places where they touched up modest nicks orsmall scratches, so certainly not perfect by any means , but still very credible befitting a high value, one owner, car. 8.5 on a scale of 0. Body - in nice shape, again way above average . Again , one of the nicer ones I ‘ve ever seen. Above driver side onroof (scarcely visible ) two parking lot type dings. Overall body a 9 on scaleof 10. Almost free of those small parkinglot type dings that only show in a certain light. (You know those half dollarsize semi depressions that only show when you look back along the length of thecar?) Maybe a couple, but overall –excellent. Remarkably smooth, straight, condition car in this regard. Rust-wise 98 % of thecar gets a solid A. Couldn’t see any anywhere . For the 2 %, … kind of surprising …there’s an very small dime size spot on the lift gate edge down low. Body otherwise great. Rust otherwise –Underside and rockers are great. A “get on your knees inspection” underneath shows no rustunderneath either, other than tiny normal skim here or there. The underside isexcellent. Was z bart bottom sealed from beginning. (see photos). Also therocker panels down low and the pinch welds down low are all near mint. Almost perfect save little curb dent in the pinchweld right side . DIDYOU KNOW? --- A stick shift vehicle,ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS lasts much longer than an automatic transmission car? Are you aware of that ? There’s no debate aboutit. Absolutely true. A manual shift vehicle justlasts longer. Much longer. Why?In a manual shift car, there’s considerably less wear and tear on theengine. MUCH less wear. The engine doesn’t have to push all that huge mass of interlocking gears, bands, valves etc up and down the shift cycle allthe time. Thus, ......the vehicle (the engine ) lasts muchlonger. Over the years we’ve sold cars, we see 1000’s of wholesale used trucks and cars. The stick shift vehicles …ALWAYS outlast the automatics!!! Interesting, huh? And....Better gas mileage too with a 5 speed. And…less expensive to fix if ever you have to. Safety, weight in a crash – Hey, what can one say. Its a sturdy, heavy solidly built Volvo. One of the absolute safest carson the road. Power windows andpower mirrors. All work. Fan blower motor blowsvery smooth and quiet (Nice, because alot of 240’s have an issue with fanblower noise. This one’s fine. ). This one is fine. Heat is fine too. Power windows, and power mirrors . All work. One lock on the rear left door (totally works) but needs alast minute nudge by hand. The powermirrors do function fine – but simply due to lack of use make a little noisewhen you adjust them. Also, nice point - "Volvo-wise" the normally cracking and splitting 240Volvo dash board is in good shape- There’s a good sizedsplit but its largely invisible as its behind the mount on the dashboard andcan’t be seen . ------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT IS THIS VOLVO CARWORTH? We have a Sell it Now price printed below. Its way reasonable. Here is what some otherpeople are asking for their 1992 240 Volvo. $10,000 . Crazy, right? This other guy on eBay last week was advertisingHIS at nearly $10,000 for a 92 with 112,000 miles. ? Uuugh! Here is his exact auction posting copied and highlighted in yellow below. It came directly from thisother guy’s eBay auction last week. HERE IT IS : ------------------------------------------- 1992 Volvo 240 Manual 5SP 1992 Volvo 240 GL Rare MANUAL 5spd Clean No Rust 1 OWNER Research Top of Form Bottom of Form · Enlarge Sell one like this Top of Form Item Location: Philadelphia, PA, United States Ended: Aug 04, 201218:18:56 PDT Price: US $9,950.00 Bottom of Form I mention this to point out how reasonable ourprice is .. and our car is station wagon! His was not! His was nice, but not that nice. -------------------------------------------------The Air Conditioning, is cold and comfortable. It works. Though to be honest, if you know Volvos, I’d couldn’t suggest the AC is Ice Cold Powerful – that’s just not the usual nature of Volvo AC and its not the casewith this one . That’s just the truth. Make sense? Tachometer, clock. Cruises best andbeautifully at around 2100 rpm. Sometimes tach needs a "wrap" with your knuckle to activate. Spare in back. Glass all intact. Couple very small external chips on windshield. Little plastic fatigue around the marker lightedges. Not an issue.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Safety for you – A fewyears back, when Volvo advertisedan "Accidental Loss of Life" insurance policy for all '96 models, they had solid empirical data upon which to make their offer . Amazingly, Volvo will tell you that no driver deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashesor rollovers of the Volvo 240 car during the 1990-94 period. Not one ! Amazingsafely record. Wow ! Volvo made itsreputation for safety and dependability with these cars. You will notice thereare still a lot of them around for a reason. They are extremely strong, safecars that last virtually forever if cared for. Ifyou want to “Just Buy It”….In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it forthe eBay sale. [It has been forsale locally, financeable, .......for $6,795and it’s still here.It needs to go.(Stick shifts are sometimes not that popular in DC area traffic)] Now, we will just sell it for cash. The“Just Sell It” figure for the eBay sale hasbeen reset to$3,988. ……….to just sell it easily. That’s right, $3,988 to Sell it Now. That’s fair. Very fair, for this car , condition etc. Again, pleasecall me with any question or concern.I will help you if I possibly can. Call Jim , 410-562 -8317. Barring that, it willbe sold, NO RESERVE to the highest bidder. Simply put , high bid gets it, unless someone comes or callsearly and takes it. (Please be aware: Sometimes the bidding easily goes over and above our “just sell it” figure , if its not bought early. We try to really set the “Sell it Now“ prices low. ) So, this is a great car ; for not too much money. Hope I haven’toverstated the case here . Its certainly not totally mint, but it is a realnice classic car ..and I’m a bit of a "fan". Anyway… Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at all. I caneasily be reached at 410-562-8317. I will answer e-mailbut you’ll get much more detailed and comprehensive information if you call.
