Vehicle Detail
I am one of the sons of the owner of this beautiful car. I just happen to live the closest to my parents. My father was very meticulous in the maintaining of his vehicle. Tragically ,our father past away in June of this year...... So rather than trying to figure out what is in his car, I will let him describe it to you in a letter he had written earlier this year to a company that appraises vehicles. " To whom this may concern," " I purchased a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Coupe - 2 door hardtop in October of 1996. The exterior color is a 1957 Victorian White offered by Oldsmobile at that time. The original color of this car was Allegheny Green and Alison White. The interior is Gold and White with Beige trim. The car is equipped with power steering, power brakes, power seat , clock , padded dash , 371 cubic inch motor with 277 horse power. Original engine was reconditioned with approx. 17,000 miles on it when I had purchased the vehicle. The speedometer read 82,500 miles. I put on 6,473 miles over 15 years. Miles to date is:88,973 I have upgraded every year besides the normal oil changes, filters, grease, and including tune ups. Everything in the car works including the radio. The upgrades I have done are: fuel pump and electric fuel pump to enhance the starting of the engine, re-core the radiator, new front shocks, coil springs, upper and lower bushings, lower right ball joints, front end alignment, 2 new front tires, dual exhaust and Smitty mufflers. New heat riser valve, battery, new bottle washer, detailed engine, refurbished rear springs, 316 stainless steel exhaust extensions, re-chromed rear bumper and all rear chrome. In 2002 & 2003 the car was layed up to do a complete dash and under dash work, re-chrome speedometer casing and other accessories including a new firewall insulator. Also, electric work, glove box and heater box done and heater valve. Padded dash, painted lower dash board with proper color and trim pieces re-painted. New carpet and door panels. I lubricate all moving door parts. The engine is quiet and runs smooth. The car right now needs new seals in the power steering gear box. I do have the seals and kit to do the repair." End of his letter... Since this letter, my father was able to find another power steering gear box and was going to rebuild this one and take out the one in the car now and rebuild that one during the off season. This never happened......... My father has a list ( that he made & we had to find ) of extra accessories with his car including : 1957 3 piece rear window glass, 1957 Olds service manual , 1957 original fox craft skirts , 1957 front & rear rug, 1957 car cover, 371 cu. in. set of valve cover gaskets, transmission gasket and other extra gaskets that we do not know what they are, 2-sets of 1957 chrome head light bazels ??, 1957 power steering gear box with rebuild kit, 1957 fuel pump, 1957 2-piece front grill not refinished, 4 1957 original spinner hub caps ??, 2 distributor caps, 2-1957 tail lamp lenses, 1 set of front brake cylinder hoses, 1957 clock frame primed only, 1 napa gold oil filter, 1 set of mufflers , 1957 gas tank float assembly. Also, he has a couple of extra boxes that have new parts in it, we just do not know what they are. This car is and always has been garage kept and covered . My father only took it out during car show season. Off season , it is up on jack stands. Thank You. Please e-mail any questions.
