Vehicle Detail

This 1955 Packard Caribbean was a limited-production automobile produced from 1953 through 1956. It was inspired by the Pan American concept car that Packard had displayed at the 1952 New York Auto Show. It was available in convertible and hardtop form. Originally, only the convertible was offered but in 1956 the hardtop was introduced. The vehicle was outfitted with as many amenities available at the time and overseen by Packard’s stylist, Dick Teague. The interior was adorned in leather trim and was equipped with dual heaters and defrosters, three-way radio with electric antenna, power brakes, windows and seats. Even power-assisted steering was standard, a rarity at the time. The beautiful colors on the exterior of this 1955 Packard Caribbean are a tri colored combination of White Jade, Emerald metallic and Jade with chrome fenestrations of hood scoops, dual spot lights, dual power antennas, cathedral taillights, egg crate grille and chrome rear and front bumpers. Under the Hood is Packard’s 352 cubic inch V8 overhead valve engine capable of producing 275 HP and fed by dual Rochester 4 barrel carburetors, with chrome valve covers and air cleaners. Completing the power train is an ultramatic proprietary transmission and a self leveling torsion bar suspension system. Packard’s power accessories included power steering, power antennas; power assisted 4 wheel drum brakes, power seats and power windows. There were only 500 examples of the 1955 Packard Caribbean created and this very, rare example has 76,838 original miles. It is believed to be the number #60 car from the original production line of Caribbean’s built that year. It has the optional wire wheels, dual hood scoops, white convertible top and boot with clear plastic window, air conditioning, and power windows. The interior colors match and compliment the exterior with the dash materials finished in a very tropical appearance along with white and jade color leather upholstery seating and door skins. The Packard Caribbean was the “Flagship” of its model year line up and when new, this car would set the buyer back $5,932 which was a high price to pay. These vehicles were tailored to the most discriminating tastes in America, with its elegant styling, luxurious appointments, and well outfitted list of options. This Packard Caribbean is truly a benchmark of a by gone American automobile era and continues to be one of the most sought after vehicles in today’s collectible automobile marketplace. This 1955 cruiser is now ready for immediate use and enjoyment. **Bidding on this car is a legal offer to purchase. Should you win, I expect you will follow through.
