Vehicle Detail
1980 Triumph TR8. The car is solid with no visible rust, rot or filler. The Triumph had apparently spent most of its life in Oklahoma, then 4-5 years in the Toronto area, and the past 2 years or so here in Michigan. According to information I recieved , the TR8 had engine work done while in Canada. Here is what I was told, along with the contact info of the shop for verification: head gasket, heads machined and valves reseated, radiator re-cored, New holley carb and aluminum intake, new gear reduction starter, new fuel pump/filter, new ignition wires, plugs, and thermostat, new water pump. Underneath: new tie rod ends, and poly urethane bushings front and back. My understanding is that this work was performed within the last 3-5 thousand miles. The AC unit had been removed but I have all the parts, although condition is unknown. It appears to have had a repaint, with minimal dings (2-3) plus 1 small vertical crease 1 - 1 1/2 in. long on drivers door. Undercarriage is very clean. Tires on the car are like new as is the spare. The trunk is also nice and has the spare with matching alloy rim and jack. Interior is nice for what appears to be original with minor wear on outside edge of drivers seat. The horn works periodically. The washer/squirters do not work, I have not looked into why. Lights, ( headlights open/close properly) brakes, turn signals, wipers, radio ect all operate. Brakes work well. The top is in decent original condition, with minimal fogging to the plastic rear and side windows. The rear window does zipper in and out. I will take, and add a picture of the TR8 with the top up. The 3.5L runs well, but I believe the holley carb to be a bit to large, or possibly dialed in better. After a good ride, the Triumph does like to " mark " its territory. I have not attempted to tighten anything, or add any type of gasket sealer type additive. Shifting into 2nd gear is slighty finicky, if clutch is not completely disengaged. I have put on 500 miles since purchasing the TR8, and this car is a blast to drive. Great power to weight ratio. I picked the TR8 up as a secondary toy/running project but now have an opportunity to purchase a vehicle that I have been after for some time and has finally been made available to me. Overall a nice clean , respectable TR8 to tinker on while driving at a very reasonable reserve. As anyone looking at this auction knows, these cars are becoming more scarce/rare. The Triumph is 32 years old, and as with all classic cars, they need continual care / maintenance. The car sells as is with no warranty. * I have priced the TR8 so the potential buyer can afford to address any issues as well as take the Triumph to the next level. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1980/Triumph/TR8/2-Door-Roadster/ValuesOn Jul-21-12 at 18:32:43 PDT, seller added the following information: With the sale will be a 365 page Repair / Operational manual as well as an original owners manual.
