Vehicle Detail
1967 250SL Roadster: 37,810 KM / 23,494 Miles; 2 tops; 4 speed; A/C; 3rd seat: Pagoda SL Hailed as "Most Collectable SL" byMercedes-Benz, Buyer’s Guide * A Buyer’s Guide 3 star MB; appreciates in value; a bargain for Euro’s and other currencies! Up for auction is a German crafted, very-very low mileage, original, 1967 Mercedes W113 Chassis, 250SL "Pagoda" Roadster with two tops. The car was imported, sold, and first titled in 1967 as one of 5196 units built. It's finished in silver metallic with caramel colored leather interior that is a truly striking combination. The car’s odometer shows 37,810 kilometers. It was first purchased by a New York City collector and was stored in a heated facility located in Manhattan, NY. As the collector had many cars… he sold this car to the second owner who lived in California where it was garaged and ran occasionally. As you can see from the leather and general condition, it was well kept and is original. Exterior/ Interior: The car's exterior has had a clear coating to protect the metallic finish. It is of driver quality. The 250SL is however a 1967 automobile with imperfections due to its age. As you can see from the photos, these imperfections in no way detract from the car's overall definitive appearance. The glass is free of scratches or cracks and all of the trim pieces appear to be original. The soft-top has aged as it has not been used and the hard top is in good condition. The car's interior has not been restored and is free of any major imperfections. Sheepskin covers were placed on the leather seats for comfort due to the cold and hot weather conditions. The seats are not torn. The carpet is original and compliments the caramel colored leather seats. The interior accent wood (on the dash pad, hard top rear window rim and center console) is original and is covered to protect it against the sun. The car's original 2.5L inline 170 HP 6 cyl fuel injected engine starts and runs fine. It is in need of fine tuning since it has not been used regularly. The engine does produce the W113's dynamic trademark sports car engine tone. The manual four-speed transmission shifts fine. The power brakes and power steering make it a true pleasure to drive. The rear differential does have a whine that will need to be taken care of. The previous owner had a new exhaust system installed and the Becker Europa radio and VDO Kienzle clock was sent to a professional in Los Angeles for restoration. The car has one spot above the driver side rear wheel well where some surface bubbles (3 bubbles of 3mm to 5mm size) have appeared. The bodylines are straight and gaps look consistent and correct. However, it seems to me that the left front was repaired at one point although I have no records of it. The A/C was overhauled with current fluids but works like a 1967 Mercedes, i.e., not like modern air-conditioners. The doors close like any Mercedes should. There are several areas of rust in the car that need attention, which I have outlined in the pictures posted. I will be happy to check any specific areas and document as needed. They drive well, they’re appreciating in value, and they’re reasonably simple to restore." (F. Barrett, 1994, p. 91) The 250SL are the most collectable: The 250SL had a total production of 5,196 out of a total 48,912 (W113 models) manufactured. In addition, the 250SL has all the benefits of the original 230SL roadster plus all the benefits of the 280SL except the DIN horsepower was 10 DIN less than the 280SL, it was oil cooled (not air), and didn’t have all the new emission controls that was later added. Some collectors say the 280SL is the most collectable because they were the last manufactured with the most updates. Others say the 250SL is more collectable because it has the updates of the 280SL; it is much more limited in production, e.g., over 20,000 compared to 5,000…and doesn’t have all the drawbacks of the emission equipment Deposit, etc.: A non-refundable $1000 deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction's end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction's end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of auction's end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however I'd be more than happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction's end. All sales are as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Thank you.On Jul-15-12 at 20:25:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Very quick note to clarify that although the odometer shows very low miles and there is no indication that this may not be accurate, I have no way of validating or certififying it to be 100% correct.
