Vehicle Detail

I am sadly selling my beloved 1978 Fiat 124 spider because I am not sure it will smog in California, where I now live (it is a 49-state model and must meet standards based on California model). The car is situated in Washington State. I am the third owner. I bought it in 2009 with 113K on it. It had been sitting for about three years, but I soon got it up and running. It now has about 116K on it. I would describe it as a partially restored, reliable daily driver (the body and the bottom of the engine have not been restored; see discussion below). All lights and gauges work (yes, even the clock) except trunk light, and the spedometer is inaccurate This car is absolute complete (down to the case for the boot, a rare item) and original except for these minor modifications: headlight relays, electronic fuel pump, electronic ignition (coil and distributor used from 1979), and seatbelt (two-point from 1979). Colors are black on black with tan interior. Here is a very partial list of what I have done since I owned it. Blaupunkt period correct (1981) head unit with cassette, matched amplifier, upgraded speakers New top Recovered seats (matching vinyl set from Europe, less than two years old and rarely used) Front end: New shocks (NOS OEM), new upper ball joints (NOS), new bushings, steering box and knuckle (used, low milegage)Engine: refurbished head, replaced timing belt, all new hoses, recent tune-upNew alternator (NOS, Marelli)Rebuilt drive shaft Refurbished brakes (rebuilt calipers) Replaced transmission oil New ignition switch Traded up and replaced lots of small parts (hub caps, lighter, ash trays, center console, dash bezel, interior light, fuel hose, trunk mat, antenna, rubber bumper trim, front bumper, gas door, floor rubber, battery cover, trunk lid support, complete tool kit, etc, etc, etc)Disassembled and reassembled bumber, replacing rusted parts Some things to consider: Though I replaced the top since I bought it, these tops only last a few years. Top is serviceable but has tears on corners (sharp angles on head bow) and near rear windows. The odometer works but speedometer is erratically inaccurate, since I have tried to maintain accurate mileage and I drive by feel, it have left it, but will sell car with working speedo showing 52K miles. The rest for the parking brake handle is snapped off under the heater bezel, have replacement one (used, very good condition) and will provide with the car.Dirt and nicks to door panels and rear interior panels (have new vinyl that matches new seats).Air pump removed, though I can provide pump and hoses with car (do not have rail).Rock chip sealed in windshield.Small chip in PS vent window and dent in chrome where plied open, latches are detached, have replacement and latches.Exhaust mid pipe is nonoriginal straight pipe (rear muffler and downpipe are stock)One crack in dash and sash sagsCracks in center console When I say partially restored, what I mean is (1) I have done nothing to the engine block; and (2) I have not restored the body. Engine runs fine and has plenty of power since I had the head redone. Body is fine for a daily driver but could use patching and paint job. It is Washington car but it has been in some minor scrapes and there are some minor rust issues.I have treated the floor with POR-15 and put in new sound dampener material. Floor is very solid, but have not filled holes from underneath.Car has been creased on both sides, one side has been bondo’d. PS front fender and door have been repainted. No sign of flexing in engine compartment,Hood hinge on DS has been welded and hood does not lie perfectly flat (see picture)There is some rust in usual spots (see pictures) although it has all been stabilized with no progression since I bought the car. Pin holes along top of rear fender/wheel well; bubbles around PS side marker light, one small bit of surface rust on rocker panel (pulled panels and are all good); bubbles on bottom of DS front fender near door (pulled kick panel map pocket to check fender from inside and still solid).
