Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1933 Ford 60's style hot rod project. It's got many different parts from many different cars, so let me give you a description. Johnny Cash's Cadillac don't have anything on this! I started with a 1933 Ford truck cab that I found in the Texas panhandle. This cab is pretty rust free with it only really needing the cab corners patched, but even they aren't that bad. The doors are really good, with some good dent work, you could have them straight, or just reskin them. They have bear claw latches installed, but I haven't gotten around to putting any type of releases on them. I have a set of Peterbuilt power window motors and regulators I was going to use instead of cranks. The cab was chopped 4.5 inches but the doors haven't been finished up all the way. The dash is from a 56 Oldsmobile. It fits perfectly. The factory speedo is not functional, but could be very easily. The steering wheel is from an old boat. Its called a Volrath and looks pretty killer. The seat is a cut down caravan. It tilts forward to gain access to the battery box which is under the seat. The truck has a new wiring harness with modern fuses. The factory Olds light switch even works. The "bed" of the truck is from a 60 Mercury Monterrey. It was cut down and narrowed to fit the width of the cab. If you look, the crown of the bed follows the body line on the back of the cab. The entire assembly tilts back to get to the fuel tank, but I planned to add a floor in it and use it as an actual trunk. I was going to have a fuel cell built and ditch the spun aluminum buggy tank. There are bear claw latches on both sides of the bed to hold it down with cable pulls to release it. These aren't hooked up yet, but would be easy, I was just waiting till I finished the truck floor. I drove it around like this and never had an issue with the bed coming up. Out front we find a pair of 1931 Studebaker Glo-lite headlamps. These were the first parts I bought when I started to build this little truck. I have an extra lens, bucket and ring for these, just in case, as they are pretty tough to find. The grille shell is made from the hood of a 60 Chevy Apache pickup. I cut the bull nose off and used it to make the grill. It's got kind of an Edsel look to it, but just enough to be different. The engine in the truck is from a 1957 Nomad. It's a 57 block 283. It runs awesome! Tons of power in this little rocket! It breathes through 4 Rochester 2gc's on an Offenhauser intake. The carbs are not progressive, one carb feeds two cylinders. One carb has a choke, but I've never needed it, it always starts right up and once it's a little warm, runs great! It has Offenhauser finned valve covers to finish off the vintage style, although being an actual 57 engine, it doesn't have to try to look vintage! The engine is mated to an s10 5 speed transmission. I used a hydraulic throw out bearing. It's got a new pressure plate and centerforce clutch. The transmission shifts through the gears, but has a bent shift fork or something because it doesn't like to downshift into 2nd or 1st. However, I have a World Class t5 from an 89 Iroc Camaro to go with the truck to replace this one. It's in great shape and ready to go. The rear is an s10 with probably 3.08 gears. On the highway in 5th, the engine is barely turning! rear wheels are 16x8.75 Dragmasters with Hurst cheater slicks. The front brakes are new rebuilt 48 Ford f1 drums with new shoes. The outer drum was turned down to allow the 45 fin buick drum to slip over as a cover. It looks great and you never have to worry about your buick drums wearing out. That said, however, I do have a complete set of Speedway disc brakes, new in the boxes, to go on. I also have a brand new set of Vintage Wheel Works 15x4 Torq Thrusts to go on the front. They are also still in the boxes. I have various bits of trim and parts that were collected for this project that I'll throw in. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things and I'll update as I remember them. You can go onto the jalopyjournal H.A.M.B. forums and search "ovaltine" for lots more info and build pictures. The truck has tons of potential if you desired to finish it out, or just drive it around as it is. It always draws a lot of attention. I do not need ANY trades whatsoever. I have a 1949 Sudebaker project that I am working on and thats part of the reason I'm letting this one go. I have a 1933 Chevrolet truck title for this, as it's pretty much a Chevy with a Ford body. It's never been registered, so you can do what you want with it. Truck is being sold without ANY type of warranty expressed or implied.
