This is the holy grail of diesel trucks - need I say more? You will not find a nicer 12-Valve anywhere. I will do my best to describe this fine truck in all its glory, but if I forget a few things I do apologize. The owner before me was a personal friend of mine, and he got the truck from his uncle - all of us have taken excellent care of it.-Fully loaded - only options not on this truck are automatic transmission and leather - full options list below.-BRAND NEW Nitto Terra Grappler tires, size 295/75R16 mounted on stock original chrome rims. Of the 3.5 years this particular engine was made (1994-early 1998 (12-Valve Cummins with the Bosch P7100 Injection Pump)), 1997 and early 1998 are the most desirable. Why? In 1994 the fuel system was designed to produce 160hp and 400 ft/lbs, and that carried over to 1995. In 1996, the power was bumped slightly to 180hp and 420ft/lbs. In 1997, however, the power was bumped to 215hp and 440ft/lbs. This is only true for the 5-Speed Manual trucks (the automatics for 1997 were kept at 180hp and 420ft/lbs due to the lousy automatic transmission not being able to withstand the power of the mighty Cummins). This same rule carried over for the 1998 year, until the 12-Valve was phased out due to emissions restrictions, and was replaced with the less-reliable, electronically controlled 24-Valve. Remember, the smog cutoff in California is 1998, so 1998 Dodges, regardless of 12-Valve or 24-Valve, have to be smogged in California. So, especially in California, a 1997 5-Speed is the truck to have! This particular Cummins engine is very tight and sound. There is absolutely no blow-by (combustion gas escaping due to bad piston rings). Starts right up and runs great. Intake grid heater works as it should. No leaks of any kind. Transmission: As you probably know, Dodge automatics are trash, hence why you're looking at a 5-Speed. The NV4500HD transmission is very durable and is excellent for towing. The only weak point on this transmission is the clutch, and it has been replaced with a Dual Disc Centerforce clutch - more on that later. Axles / Differentials:The front axle is the super-durable Dana 60, and the rear is the Dana 80. In 2nd gen automatic trucks, the Dana 80 wasn't used - a Dana 70 was, and it is a less heavy-duty axle than the 80. The gearing is the original 4.10s, which is great for towing. Other Mechanical Information:This truck has VERY rarely towed - perhaps 2-3 times in its entire life, and that was just a motorcycle trailer. The bed has never been drilled for a Gooseneck hitch. The truck doesn't leak and has been meticulously maintained by all its owners, with records. No warning lights, no noises, death wobble, rattles or knocks. Drives down the road arrow straight and gets great mileage doing it - 16-18MPG. The silver paint is overall very good. It shines and is very smooth - waxed regularly. The body is free from any major damage, but does have a few small flaws (see pictures). There is a very small area of clear-coat peeling on the roof, which is very typical for these trucks. The truck was originally equipped with ugly chrome 4-point towing mirrors which have since been replaced with newer style flip-out towing mirrors with the correct Dodge OEM stiffener brackets. Due to the original mirrors, there are 4 small bolts in the doors that I put there to keep the holes from rusting (not to mention it's more aesthetically pleasing). There are also 2 aftermarket backup lights installed under the rear bumper with a switch on the dash. One of the brackets holding them on is slightly bent from a tire rolling into it. An OEM Dodge drop-in bedliner has been installed since day one, so the bed underneath is perfect. All the lights and signals are working. Also, the truck at one time had a camper shell on it so a lock has been installed on the tailgate, and I have the keys for it. Interior Condition:The rare Camel interior is overall in excellent shape. The seats are free from any rips or stains. The dash has one very small crack that is hard to see unless you're looking for it - I didn't notice when I bought the truck. All the options are functional, even the power seat. The A/C is very cold and the heat is hot. The premium Infinity sound system sounds great with no blown speakers. The only option I'm not sure about is the CD player because I've never tried it, but I'm sure it works. A cassette - iPod hookup thing will be included since there is no auxiliary input - it plugs into the headphone jack on your iPod or MP3 player. All gauges and lights work as they should - fuel gauge included. Included:Truck, Original Keys & Key Fobs (2), copies of ignition and door keys and tailgate keys, Owners manuals, original window sticker, all original documentation of purchase from dealer and all service records, title, proof of registration, and bill of sale. Also have the decorative engine cover which I removed because it rattled from a missing bushing on it. Overall this is one of the nicest 12-Valves you'll find and after reading the ad, looking at the pictures and watching the video, I hope you agree.
