Vehicle Detail

1985 Porsche 944, VIN WP0AA0940FN473626, 85,711 miles, metallic gold with brown leather interior, 5speed manual transmission. A real survivor! Car has been garaged since at least 1994, has never seen winters or salt. Like a really nice old pair of blue jeans--original, classic, feels like an old friend. Not a concours fake-100%-resto car, but a real, well-cared for Porsche from their golden era of craftsmanship. I purchased the car in the Fall of 2009, and we have used it very sparingly since. We drove it on a few trips (showed it in Porsches 2 Oxford), and drove it on sunny, fair weather days. We intended to use the car at Porsche HPDE events, but never did. The prior owner (who owns many Porsches) took it to a few PCA events and said it performed flawlessly. Since we have other sunny-day vehicles, the car sees very little use, and we haven't really driven it since midsummer 2011. Because of this, and because I lost my extra garage spot (the 944 is currently stored temporarily in another garage), I will sell the car on to a new owner. Written maintenance history, with ALL fuel fillups and calculated mileage, back to 1994! Rare full-option car (factory sport suspension, rare option LSD which still works, removeable roof, power windows, factory alarm, factory AC). Car is in nearly factory original condition, including the paint. Tires appear good and haven't been an issue since I bought the car, but if you drive it a lot, I might consider replacing them as they are old Yokohama AVS Intermediate's--a fairly old tire now. Some peeling of the clearcoat on the cookie-cutter rims, could use a light refinish. No body damage, one very small ding on rear of car under rear wing (see photo). No other dings or scrapes. Original interior is in beautiful shape--no cracks in the seats, very mild wear to the factory leather. Exterior was given a professional light paint restoration by Todd Cooperider of estotericdetail.com; Todd is a fantastic nationally-known detailer trusted with many Ferraris. The original paint has some peeling on the front apron (very typical for these cars, see photo) and some very light scratches on the right side of the car (again, see photo); these scratches are only visible in some types of light. Otherwise, it looks as good as I've ever seen paint from 1985. You can tell the car was cared for very well. I asked Todd to do the whole car and see what could be done about the light scratches. He advised me not to have him remove the scratches, as this would lessen the longevity of the paint, which he said is in absolutely fantastic condition for the age. He massaged the entire car and made it shine like new, I've left it the same (except washing) since. I can vouch for the underbody--I did the rear shocks and halfshaft, and I found nary a frozen bolt on the entire underbody! Even in the suspension. This car is an absolute joy to work on. Has aftermarket Blaupunkt CD stereo w/aux input installed. I was told the AC works fine but needs charged--I never attended to this, as it was a strictly fair-weather car for us. All power accessories work--even the rear hatch! Speaking of the hatch--you will see a rolled-up cloth holder in the photo--this is for the sunroof, to protect it when you remove it from the car. Most of these are long gone by now, but this is another indication of the car taken with this car. Car starts quickly, is a little cantankerous when cold (all old 944s are like this), and runs like a top when warmed up. With all the suspension work done, and fresh fluids, it drives tight like an almost-new car. Will spin freely and smoothly to redline without any complaints. Shifts like a new car--smoothly and surely. My wife drove this car frequently, and I never had a worry that it would let her down. We drove it to a few out of town Porsche events without worry. It's been a very reliable, solid car for us. I know of no issues with the car, although the car is 27 years old, and the sale is as-is, and there is no warranty.
