Vehicle Detail
1940 Packard 120 Touring Sedan Real Class! Sold new in Phoenix and lived most of its life in Arizona and New Mexico. SOLID and STRAIGHT! It was restored as a stock restoration in about 1990, with all the modern chassis and powertrain updates professionally done during 1998 – 2004 at a New Mexico shop. But……she could really use a fresh repaint and interior redo. The body and frame show no signs of ever being rusted or damaged. It’s unbelievable how clean the frame and underbody are. The rear valance panel was replaced at one time with a fabricated part, otherwise its all the original Packard metal. BUT, this is not a heavy car, it weights in at only 3250 lbs. Never driven in the Michigan winters, always stored inside. Rebuilt 1974 Chevy 350 and Turbo 350 transmission. Sanderson rams horn manifolds, Edelbrock dual plane intake and 625 Edelbrock carb. HEI distributor. Fatmans Fabrication front frame clip – professionally installed Mustang II front suspension – tubular upper arms, new springs and shocks Fox-body Mustang power rack & pinion steering and GM tilt column Ford 9” rear axle 3.73 ratio (rebuilt) and Packard parallel leaf springs New fuel tank New aluminum radiator New 3” single exhaust (sounds great) New wiring (fabric covered OEM style) and brake tubes New driveshaft 4 wheel POWER disc brakes (11" front) with parking brake rear calipers Underfloor brake booster and master cylinder (still stock hanging pedal) Rechromed bumpers New grill bars Replacement glass all around New black carpet Carpeted trunk area New battery (in trunk) Vintique 15” steel wheels and V8 center caps The Packard is a reliable and comfortable cruiser. No A/C installed Items needing eventual work include the interior panels (sun and water damage from no waterproofing behind the door panels), worn seat fabric (mostly driver side), scattered paint issues (chips, crazing, lifting, cracking, etc from the desert sun), only some of the stock gauges work, worn window channel felt, and most weatherstrips … you get the picture, it needs updating! New trans filter and fluid last fall. Might consider trades towards a ‘turn key’ pre-49 Hot Rod (no projects) – full fendered coupe or open car.
