Vehicle Detail
Selling a 1950 Ford Coupe This car is a project that I just about finished except for the headliner, weather strip and the gas gauge, although new, doesn't work. Probably not hooked up correctly. To my knowledge there is nothing wrong with the mechanicals or anything else with this car. I purchased the car in 2001 to restore as a daily driver. The body was removed and all suspension from the frame. After the frame was media blasted and painted I had an excellent mechanic build the frame using a 74 Monte Carlo sub frame for the front so we could have modern suspension plus power steering, disk brakes and the correct mounts for the 1995 Cadillac engine. It was also modified to hold the extra wide Cadillac radiator. We have had a couple of rear ends installed and settled on a Chevy S10 truck which was more narrow than the first rear end plus a 410 gear ratio. The ratio works fine because of the 460LE overdrive transmission. Forgot to say the emergency brakes are not hooked up. After the body was media blasted all of the rusted areas were cut out and replaced with Ford panels. NO BONDO!!! My plan was for the car to be original but as things happen we decided on a two tone, with frenched headlights, tail lights and antenna, then the grille area was modified and a roll pan installed on the rear. The front fenders and grill area are all one piece and all metal. I purchased a 1951 Ford to get the trunk and hood to remove the outside hinges on the trunk and have a straight bottom on the hood. The inside of the body was sprayed with Por-15 rust paint. All new floor pans were installed, the fire wall modified to fit the engine, new fender wells were made for the front due the the width of the engine, the holes under the hood were filled. It looks as good as the outside of the car. A new trunk floor was made and installed. The car has Mighty-Matt insulation in the doors, firewall, floor and trunk. New steering box was installed plus all either new or rebuild suspension parts. I used 2 gallons of a High-Build primer to block the body so there would be no ripples in the panels. The paint for the color coats cost me about 1200.00 and was applied by Gary Trull, who is as good as they come. The paint was wet sanded and buffed to a smooth high gloss finish. The orange stripe was hand pin-stripped. The tires have less than 200 miles on them. Of course the battery, which is in the trunk, is new. The interior is from a late model Cadillac Eldorado which allows the front seats to fold for rear entrance. They are power. All new tinted glass was made for the car except the back glass. The windows are power. The air conditioner is from Vintage Air but I used the compressor from the Cadillac but had it rebuilt. There are 3 vents under the dash, one of which I was in the process of changing to a different bracket. The heat now comes from the Vintage Air unit. It took me a little over 5 years to complete to the stage you see it. I have probably left out something important but I assure you no money was spared to keep this from being built first class. The actual reason for selling is I want to purchase a 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang and they cost over $65,000.00. My last big fling! I will be happy to answer your questions and send more pictures if you wish. The car is located near Greensboro, N.C. This car is listed in other places so I reserve the right to cancel at any time. I will do whatever I can to help with shipping the car, plus feel free to call me between 8:00am and 9:00pm EST at 336-674-3328. Thanks so much for taking time to look at my '50.
