Vehicle Detail

Welp....here it is!! My infamous personal 1998 S70 T5 5speed!! It's time to move on and upgrade(???). I actually haven't driven the car much lately. I also just happened to acquire a 98 V70R with 180k which I plan to use as my daily driver now. My loss, your gain! As you may or may not know, there were only about 300 1998 T5 sedans shipped to the North American continent. Naturally over a 14 year period that number has decreased greatly. No....I don't expect my car to be worth gold plated money, but you KNOW you've ALWAYS wanted one....now's the time!! I've easily enjoyed 24-30 MPG in this car. I really want and need the car to go to a great home, is that you? It's really NOT going to get any cheaper than this!! NO RESERVE! Yes you can find T5's in many years and flavors in the S70 line. But the 1998 5speed makes it made from "unobtainium". I personally love the 98 lineup. New body design with 850 solid reliable drivetrain without the 99up throttle body headaches. I've sold plenty of automatics but from the 15 years I've been selling Volvos(100s of them), I've only sold 4 stick shift cars. One base model V70, my 98 T5 manual V70(to upgrade to this car), recently a 99 5speed T5(see recent positive feedback) and this one. Is the car in perfect condition?? Absolutley not. Great condition for it's age and mileage?? Yes. I haven't had it detailed in quite some time..and I would recommend it. It looks awesome for a black car...but with a light buff and wax?? Would make a Huge difference. Headlight lenses have a crack on the driver's side and rock chip on passenger. Headlight wipers work as they should. The front and rear bumper covers have seen better days. But no major damages, cracks or holes. As you can see in the pics, the body panels are ridiculously straight. Zero noticable rust to be found. Everything else on the car, for the most part, is unmodified/unmolested...exhaust, engine, etc. Paint shines very well even tho it's dry and unwaxed. No faded spots. You may notice the sunroof is popped up a bit. The motor works but a slider is stuck. I haven't tried in forever but with assistence, I believe it will tilt up but not slide back. No, it doesn't leak water or make noise. I believe this roof is the same as the 850 versions so repair should be easy. Front Goodyear tires are nearly new. A couple things you should notice, the rims for starters. Hard to notice in a picture, but they are the 99up T5 versions. The older TURBO rims were this design but plain silver. The 99up models were almost a mild/matte chrome color. Just a hair more shiney making them stand out from the prior years. Second you should notice the cross-drilled and slotted rotors. At every corner, in fact. Nearly new semi-metallic brake pads and stainless steel brakelines are installed front and rear. Night and day stopping power versus stock units. Easily throw you thru the dash if needed. The rear tires....ehh....not so hot. The car I got these rims/tires from, ate thru these. They hold air and are smooth with a bit of tread, but will need replacement. Rims are nice with only minor soccer mom rash here and there on the lips. Faces are nice. Also notice the rear drilled rotors. If you inspect the rear bumper cover, you'll see plenty of paint scrapes. Again, no major damages, just a few years worth of my bad choices in parking spots! A repaint makes it justlikenew2u! You may also notice the optional driving lights still work and the XC grill I swapped in. Below is a remnant of why I'm selling the car. From it sitting for a few months recently, and my tree riddled property, a tree branch fell during a storm and dented up the hood. If the car were 2feet back, it would have never hit the hood! BTW, the car started flawlessly and effortlessly after sitting...a newer Interstate battery and Lucas oil treatment will ALWAYS take care of business! Here's the sketchy part, I'm pretty sure the engine was replaced some time ago before I got the car. Not new, but there were a few signs of junkyard yellow numbers here and there, making the engine LESS than the car's current mileage. The current Volvo timing belt looks to have about 30-40k miles left on it yet this Volvo issued timing tag shows it was changed at 71k. Maybe it's on it's 3rd belt or the belt was newer on the engine swap?? I truly don't know but the motor is strong and the timing belt is OK. As is the water pump and other related items. No major oil or coolant leaks to be found underneath. CV boots/joints are solid. Other joints are tight. No worries here. Here you can see the recent Interstate battery, cap, rotor, poly-urethane upper motor mount and the upper strut tower brace. Unseen are the odds and ends...V70XC lower motor mount, tie rod end, strut, strut mount, wheel bearing, and misc other items like new spark plugs, recent oil change and cabin filter. Interior is nice, considering. Mostly the driver's seat is the most worn. No major bolster wear with only the seam splitting. Easily fixed with a proper seamstress. The passenger left rear lock is finnicky. Sunroof was stated above. Everything else in the interior works properly as it should: power windows, locks, cruise, heat, radio, heated seats, ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING, traction control, power seats, etc. As you can see, ALL the dummy lights illuminate as they should upon startup. The ABS/TRAC light was on from the typical malfunctioning ABS unit. I've performed the proper internal unit repair, so no mor lights! The only thing left is a random "check engine" light. It will pop on then go out literally within days of each other. I think I simply have a faulty gas cap since it keeps showing a "evap leak small" code. Yes I have the kneebolster cover for the passenger side. It will be installed upon your arrival to pickup the car. For the records, I'm a non-smoker and I hate smoke. No signs of prior smoking in this car. Full spare tire setup is intact along with the floormats, one factory key, one keyfob, scraper and even the factory windshield wiper blades are included! Those are Volvo issue and I'm anal about keeping things of potential value. You may have noticed the door panels look great with only MINOR typical vinyl separation. Factory manuals are included as well. The car runs and drives like a car half it's age! The ONLY things that will need to be addressed ASAP is the left front wheel bearing is howling. I am GIVING YOU a BRAND NEW wheel bearing to have it replaced. If I had the time, I would have just replaced it and not said a word about it. But MY LOSS, YOUR GAIN, remember??? Also, as most higer mileage 850 and S/V70 line cars do...this car has a stinky heater core. It's not even that bad, but during a colder day last week, I could smell the anti-freeze scent. I've easily changed these cores start to finish in 20mins. I'm ALSO INCLUDING a NEW HEATER CORE with your purchase. Again, I do NOT have the time to replace....hence the NO RESERVE price. The engine fires right up and runs strong. Transmission shifts perfectly in every gear. Clutch is smooth and grips properly. No odd noises or issues that I haven't described. To finish.....replace the left front bearing(and align) and heater core with the new ones I'm providing, get 2 tires for the rear, swap out the rear antenna (mast is broken), and drive the car anywhere!! I've met or exceeded the normal service requirements for this car. BID BUY and DRIVE WITH 100% CONFIDENCE!! Inspect my excellent feedbacks! NO RESERVE! GOOD LUCK! I apologize in advance if I sound like I'm scolding....but this NEEDS to be said. This vehicle is AS-IS/AS-SHOWN. The vehicle is in Illinois being sold by a dealer. WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE for your individual state's "inspection" or emissions compliance. I am simply trying to offer you and possibly your family a quality reliable vehicle. 690,000 cars were pulled from our roads during the Clunkers "program"....like most Americans, I still can't afford a new car and now have to sell(and drive)from what's left. I sell $3000-$6000 vehicles...all types and mostly what I would personally drive or own. I don't know if you are buying down the street or in Virginia or California...so I HAVE to make our cars ready for the road trip. I don't know who will be driving the car....so I HAVE to make it ready for your teen or your job in the morning. I can only promise I do the BEST that I can with what I have and what I sell. My EXCELLENT FEEDBACKS prove it. I'm not here to rip people off. I'm also here to help so feel free to contact me after purchase for anything....or even if you have any questions about a future purchase. Also, understand that I spend many countless hours (inspecting, repairing, cleaning, taking pics and writing specific personal ads) for everything I sell...not to mention the $125 sell fee that is charged to me at the end. Please don't jack around if you don't plan to go thru with the purchase. Thanks for your understanding. Now you're at the bottom. Hopefully I've covered the main specifics of the vehicle and eased your mind. I understand that you are putting yourself or your loved ones in this vehicle. I personally have put my own mother in an 01 C70 with 175k miles and I personally drive a 98 S70 with 220k miles! Many of my personal friends drive cars that I have sold them. I treat you no different. If I haven't covered any of your questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call me at 815.744.7223. My name is Eric. Also understand that I have the right to end the auction early due to local sale. I STILL REQUIRE a $500 deposit to be made within 24hours. Use Paypal for the deposit please. Of course I understand each bidder/buyer has different payment needs. Sorry....no financing is available on this transaction. Please secure your own from you bank of choice BEFORE bidding. Remember....24 hours $500 deposit due....3 days for payment in FULL. Naturally I will assist in ANY shipping needs! Thank you for your interest on this NO RESERVE auction! GOOD LUCK!
