Vehicle Detail

American as Apple Pie 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe O ffered For Sale is a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe in very nice condition. This classic features a 289 V-8 engine. It has also been tastefully set up in a way, reminiscent to "GT" options, that truly brings out the Mustang's pony car characteristics. Such items include: a 4 bbl carburetor, dual exhaust, new GT rims, and a macho stick-shift (3 spd manual) transmission. This alluring Pony has plenty of "giddy-up," making it a cool daily driver and a fantastic investment opportunity. Vintage Mustangs are wonderful cars, and a great buy in the world of collectible automobiles, but prices (and demand) are on the rise, especially if it's an early model with the desired 289 V-8. Over the decades, many early Mustangs have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, or over-eager boy-racers who drove them into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. For the past 8 years, it has belonged to the same owner and has been well maintained and kept in the garage. Because the previous owner had a company car for daily driving, this Mustang was seldom used. As a result, for the first time in several years , it is now being offered for sale. After four decades, this Pony continues to ride proudly in the American tradition, offering fine performance, good looks, and a huge following. The original Owner's Manual still accompanies the car after all this time. The VIN for this 1966 Mustang is: 6R07C176813 for all you aficionados. This Mustang sports an aggressive look, thanks to the new chrome GT wheels and adjustable rear air shocks. All emblems and trim are intact and in good condition. Driving a vintage Mustang makes you feel like a kid in a toy store...excited and full of energy. The experience is pure fun - both for driver and passengers. This car instantly transfers you to another era when The Beach Boys were always playing and taking an afternoon drive to the local burger joint was something you looked forward to. This particular 'stang is even more of a pleasure to drive because of the rare stick shift. Even with a 3-spd, it's still a ton of fun to make this car move and go through the gears. This pony is eager to jump due to the 4 bbl carb and peppy 289 V-8. The throaty sound of the dual Flowmasters keeps you wanting more. It's a lot of fun for the money. Cockpit is truly race inspired - it offers a complete instrument panel with separate readouts for fuel / oil / temperature / voltage. Temperature gauge doesn't work; AMP stays in the middle; OIL reading is always in positive territory. Signals, wipers, and horn operate fine. Glove box insert is missing. Radio is an aftermarket Kenwood CD sensibly mounted under the dash; original unit is not present. ............ Aqua interior is in excellent shape, and looks to have been either very well maintained or recently renovated. Seats, door panels, and dials are in crisp, clean condition. Dash pad is in excellent shape with no fading, and no cracks. Carpeting is very clean; no signs of fading or wear. ............ Headliner matches the terrific condition of the upholstery. Rear package tray is not torn or faded. Thankfully, no aftermarket speaker holes have been drilled. Tahoe Turquoise is the current exterior finish and is actually this Mustang's factory color, as the "U" paint code indicates. ............ From a distance the car looks decent, but the respray paint job is old, thin in some areas, and oxidized. This Mustang is a "driver," and shows routine evidence of use through some scrapes and chips in the paint; most notably on the front of the hood near the edge, and the right rear bottom fender has a scrape. Right rear area where the light and fender join is slightly pushed in. The rear quarter panel on the driver side is a slightly creased. I would consider none of these major, as they can easily be repaired when the car is to be painted again. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Fortunately, the overall condition of this Mustang is solid. There are only a few minor spots typical to these cars showing small corrosion in the paint, namely at the bottom. Sides are quite straight, though, and still maintain a shine. I don't see any evidence of damage in the way of accidents. Paint and body will be easy and staight-forward, as there are no overwhelming problems to deal with. ........... Trunk is in unusual dry condition. The aqua color paint still shows, hinting at the fine integrity of this Mustang. Metal is solid, showing no damage or bent panels. This Mustang had been properly stored by the previous owner in a garage, away from the elements. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ Undercarriage is about as good as one could hope for. It's dry, with no holes or corrosion. Bottom of rockers on both sides are solid, too. All frame rails are straight, indicating the Mustang hasn't been in any accidents. Open the hood and you’ll find the coveted Ford 289 V-8 motor. A tried and true specimen, if there ever was one. Pump the gas a couple times when it's cold, turn the key, and the throaty exhaust note that is "music" to any Mustang lover's ear, instantly comes to life. What's wonderful about vintage Mustangs is that they're so simple to work on. You can perform much of the maintenance with just basic hand tools and a quick visit to your local NAPA Auto Parts store. ............... Vitals are where they should be. Oil pressure is strong; coolant is bright green - not brown & rusty. The 289 motor sounds incredibly healthy, with no tapping, knocking, or other weird noises. All you hear is that throaty exhaust note, and that's always welcome. This is shown in a short YouTube video below. This motor is slightly hopped-up, too. On top, there's a 4 bbl carburetor which provides great acceleration, and a dual exhaust system with new Flowmaster mufflers. Driving the Mustang is always fun, and it feels good, thanks to the strong V-8 and stick shift. The brakes, clutch, power-steering, etc. are in well-maintained condition, with no issues. I've driven the car quite a bit, both on the highway and around town, and it has proven reliable. Even when stone cold, the engine always fires right up. Take a Test Drive! Click on Video Clip Above The fine 289 V-8 performance....the mental journey back to the '60s...the cache of a legendary American Icon.... all these tickle the senses and add to the pride of classic Mustang ownership. The example offered here presents a great value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles. This Mustang is not perfect, but it's an Honest car for someone who’s always wanted to join the club, or sold their classic ’stang years ago and now wants the magic back. This Pony has it all: the "right" year, 289 V-8, stick shift, GT rims, dual exhaust, like-new interior, original color, solid body, and on and on... Don't buy into the countless "projects" that require tons of sorting or don't even run. This one can be instantly enjoyed and driven to many of the upcoming Summer car shows.
