Vehicle Detail

My friend Dale bought this remarkably complete, barn-fresh, 45 year old Skylark convertible with intentions of doing a total restoration on her. In the meantime, a Cougar convertible caught his eye and now the Skylark has got to go to make room for the new, higher priority. Here's what we know: THE GOOD: Totally complete - unusually straight bodied - original drivetrain (300 Cubic Inch 2-Barrel V-8) starts easily, idles smoothly and provides plenty of power for cruisin' the interstate. Glass is all there and good, front bumper is excellent and the rear bumper is usable. All chrome is present and accounted for. Original AM radio is intact. The power top runs up and down smoothly and quietly. Brand new carpet is included. Original vinyl interior is remarkably intact and presentable. Four new (10 year old) tires. Spacing between fenders and body, hood and fenders, trunk lid and fenders, etc. is all factory-perfect! THE BAD: The car is 45 years old! While complete and remarkably straight, the rear quarter panels have seen previous body work to repair rust. The rocker panels may also have seen previous bodywork and the front floorpans are showing a little daylight. The top is in need of replacement, what's left of the original paint is awful, the interior has been wet and smells of mildew, and some dismantling has already been started (but, everything is included)...in short, the car is complete but in need of a total cosmetic restoration. THE SUMMARY: If you're a fan of the 67 Skylark Convertible, this is an ideal candidate for a total restoration. It's straight, has all it's original parts and is a great color combination. (If this was a Chevelle instead of Skylark, we'd be talking about 4-5 times as much money!) It's a big project but will yield a stellar finished project!
